U.S. to outline rule for Canadian cattle imports
Updated Thu. Sep. 13 2007 4:47 PM ET

The Canadian Press

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. government will announce Friday the rule for resuming imports of older cattle and beef products from Canada.

The Agriculture Department's chief veterinarian, John Clifford, is scheduled to discuss the rule with journalists.

But it will be at least two months before trade resumes.

The rule must first be published in the U.S. Federal Register and cannot go into effect until 60 days after that.

After the mad cow scare in 2003, U.S. officials shut the border to Canadian cattle.

Trade later resumed in younger cows, thought to be at less risk for contracting the disease.

At least this gives the US cattleman a chance to sell his culls before the negative impact of these cattle hit the US market too bad....Doesn't do anything tho for the US consumer that has to bear the risk of 26 times higher BSE risk beef (according to the US Center for Disease Control) ....

This doesn't surprise me- as has been shown with the Chinese tainted products issue- our current administration/USDA/FDA put multinational corporate interests, foreign imports, and foreign trade ahead of consumer safety...
We definitely need an M-COOL implemented.....

Yep--but I'll bet I know an AMI/Packers/NCBA bunch that will be stuffing his campaign pocket book- besides slipping him a few hundred thousand $ under the table... If we see thousands of illegal Mexicans all donate the $2000 limit, we'll know how well the Packers have enjoyed manipulating him....

Johanns may run for Senate: Nebraska governor

By Janie Gabbett on 9/13/2007 for Meatingplace.com

Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman said he expects USDA Secretary Mike Johanns to run for the Senate seat that will be vacated by Sen. Chuck Hagel (R-Neb.), who announced on Tuesday that he will not seek reelection in 2008.

Heineman made the comment while speaking to reporters by telephone from Taiwan, a stop on his 11-day trip through Asia to promote trade opportunities for the state, Ashley Cradduck, spokeswoman for the governor, told Meatingplace.com.

"The Secretary will not be making any comment about his future, nor will he speculate about what he will do after his service to the President," USDA Press Secretary Keith Williams told Meatingplace.com.

Johanns is the former Nebraska governor and former mayor of Lincoln, Neb.

Oh I think they both been doing pretty well dragging it in- from GW, Tom Delay, Burns, Gale Norton, Ney, Harry Reid, Dorgan--looks like they all did quite well...

Remember this little piece of work- thats still going on and probably only touching on the fringes of corruption in D.C.- just one of probably thousands.....But if your making $9 million to arrange a meeting with GW- and only have to give GW $100,000- not a bad racket...

And then GW says he doesn't even know who Abramoff is--until all the pictures show up of him and Laura and him and Cheney all together with the fella....   And Secret Service says he was on Cheney's visitor sign in list--which now Cheney won't let the Secret Service keep anymore....STINKS...

OT, do you really believe, of the most likely many hundred people a US Pres. may have brief contact, or a photo op with each day, that he should instantly recall ONE person weeks, months, or years later? Few people could do so.

Abramoff may have been a mover and a shaker, and now is OUT. The system is self cleansing when PROOF of misdeeds hits Republicans, but far less so when it is Dems. Hilary was doing her money grubbing on both personal and party level from the beginning!

Re. your proudly shared link........ when the words "progress" or "progressive" appears in relation to anything political, it is virtually guaranteed to be a radical left wing outfit trying to make themselves appear beneficial to society and with less negative political connotations......which is quickly belied by the content.
