Yellowstone, half Quarter Horse and half Tennessee Walker. He is big, stout, and can hold or pull about
anything. He's also a good endurance horse, able to cover many miles in a day.

Our last calf was born about two weeks ago, so we branded the last ten calves in the afternoon.
The lady of the crew got the honor of doing the roping.

Thanks, Judith. Yes, I picked out a great lady for a lifetime partner. Our 28th wedding anniversary is coming up later this month, and I just couldn't have done better. She could have, but please don't remind her.

Really appreciate your pics as well and look forward to them. Congrats on the 28 years! You can thank the good Lord for the helpmeet he has given you! As a single guy, I get kinda envious of your team. Does your bride also cook, clean and sew?  :!:

Yes she does. You can take one look at me and know that I married a good cook.

I have come to the conclusion that there are two very important choices in life. Number One is choosing to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior. Number Two is the person you marry. Other life choices are important, but they don't hold a candle to the first two.

Awesome photos Soapweed--I love that you chronicle your days with pictures...another generation will be so thankful you did --

ditto on the priorities..
some people are just better at selection than others :) :)

Your pictures sure show the busy time of year it is for us...I haven't taken the camera on horseback cause I'm just blond enuff not to be able to handle the horse..coach the dog...watch the cows...and not get lost all at the same time..lol I had to laugh, we also have 10 calves left to brand..but until we get all the other critters up to the McKelvie, they are just grazing here at home...maybe next week, we'll finish up the branding season..lol

Congradulations on your pending Annv...I sure hope you've got somthing special planned..

Aww admit it Soap, you did the same as I did and found a woman who felt sorry for you and is able to put up with a lot and not get mad!

Some year, you and your lovely bride and me and the better half, should all get together to celabrate, seeing as how me and the little woman celebrated (hmm, maybe it was just me celebrating and she was feeling sorry for herself ) 28 years in January.

I sure got to agree with your two choices. If you make bad choices at either of those, life isn't going to be much fun.

Mine has been, for the most part. :-)

Oh and by the way, when we brand, I never have to let the mrs. have a turn at roping. That was one of the things she never wanted to learn how to do. Rope, milk a cow or shoot a gun.

But I sure taught her how to cook good! :D

Yup, Jinglebob, you and I both lucked out. :-)

Speaking of milk cows.............When we were courting, our dreams included a picturesque little log cabin, a milk cow, and a garden. We messed with a milk cow for a couple years, and she dabbled with a garden a few times. Fortunately we crossed those two items off of our "dream list." We would someday still like to have a picturesque quaint little cabin though. :-)

Well hell, why didn't you say so. Ask Saddle Tramp about mine, or better yet, come visit and spend the night in it.

By the way, my favorite horse of the moment, Beaver, sure is built a lot like Yellowstone and I sure like him also. Eager and a nice mover. Stout and pretty dadburn gentle(or I wouldn't be riding him). I haven't really tested his speed yet. Maybe when I go to headin' some of these yearlings to doctor them.

Say if you come visit and like the cabin, I will sell it to you or give you the plans.

I will certainly take that into consideration. Thank you for the offer.

A cousin of mine upon news that I had found a lady that I wanted to marry asked me "Where did you ever find one pretty enough to suit you, but dumb enough to like you? I don't know, but thirty years later she still is. I like her too! She's out in the garden now. One year we counted, and she put up 500 ears of corn off of 6 30 foot rows. The garden is a good thing until I have to help cultivate( our cultivator looks like a hoe). She told me straight up that she had milked all the cows she wanted to. She milked three morning and night when she was a kid at home. That probably is good too, as I am in 'good' enough shape without all that cream I would have consumed!
