After going this long without a fire, we had one yesterday. I had been in for 45 minutes or so, Mike maybe for 15 when a neighbor came roaring in saying we had a fire by our renter's trailer house! Got up there and the renter had his backback sprayer, his kid was wetting down towels (no idea why they hadn't called us). In about 10 more minutes it was up to hiway (1/2 mile). All the neighbors appeared, 4 fire departments, and a helicopter dropping water. Thankfully, the wind was blowing away from the trailer and our place. It probably only burnt 10 acres or so on us, went to the neighbor's (our only not nice neighbor) who weren't home, and jumped the highway in two spots. I ended up at the neighbors alone with a garden hose, once I finally found an unlocked gate into their 12 foot high fenced yard. Fire was in a pile of ties, trying to get a woodpile and the tractor and backhoe. Had it slowed down by the time the fire trucks found away in. All's well that ends well, and thank goodness for great neighbors and firefighters!!!!

That is spooky Nicky! Glad nobody got hurt and the damage was minimal. We have had 9 lightning fires in 4 days over here. A storm dropped a quarter inch of rain but the lightning that accompanied it wasnt appreciated. So far, each fire has been under 20 acres but still makes me nervous. Stay safe!

I too am glad everything turned out ok, Nicky.

There was a fire south of Ekalaka, Mt that started from a lightening
strike. They finally got it under control yesterday. I have heard that it
burned 1100 acres...and some of the most scenic country in this corner
of the world. Of course the grass will grow back, it's the trees that take
forever to grow here. Only an uninhabited trailer and some out buildings
burned up. They did evacuate a bunch of people tho, that was in the
path of the fire.

For those interested, you can go to facebook and type in 'Ekalaka Fire'
and read and see all about it. Pretty hectic around there for awhile.

the fire situation is sure a scary one this fall for alot of folks. rain, even some snow would sure be welcomed around here. happy to hear all is well, Nicky.

1100 acres is sure better than what i have heard, which was closer to 11,000. the smoke was terrible thick here Friday and Saturday.

Thank goodness it didn't burn any houses and know one got hurt. While I was in Canada our next door neighbor lost his whole barn and a large hay stack on the outside. (all of his winter feed :( ) to fire.
