Been guide'n muledeer hunters all last week on the desert. Though ya might like to see some of the sights we saw! Weather was cool and clear and the hunting fine. Started the night before with a last scouting trip on top of the Sheeprock mountains. Looking east toward mount Nebo about 80 miles away as the moon rose.

Opening mornin' looking northwest and across the desert. We start high and then work lower as the hunting pressure moves the deer.

Lion rock from the west side. Had a few little bucks below us that drifted into the cedars before the camera man was ready. :x Musta been camera shy!

Lion rock from the east as i skirted it to check a canyon and some draws. Our big bucks are cliff dwellers and like the rough country. So do I!

A really, really old cedar tree high on the mountain. Maybe 100 years old or better.

We hunt a lot of burns later in the hunt and always start seeing bucks. The grass has blossomed without the trees competing for the rain!

More lookout pics.

Good grass makes great cattle! Here is Indian rice grass on the left and good ol' crested wheat on the right.

Now for the deer shots(pun intended!) A crazy cactus head on a long yearling buck. Normal bucks have shed the velvet a while back. Sometimes deer like this do not shed and continue to grow additional bone each year. We will be watching this guy grow up.

A buck we looked at and decided to pass on. Still was pretty though!

Another young buck that just needs a little time to grow up into a giant. He has great genetics and may become a monster typical if a lion doesnt eat him!

Speaking of lion kills........ We put him on the wheeler to take a picture and then had to leave him as per state law! 28" wide 4 by 4!

I helped this young man get his buck out of a canyon he couldnt find. He shot him a long way from where he started hunting that morning and cached him to get help. I helped him get into the mouth of the canyon as he had come over the top and didnt know the country. Pretty buck!

On day three of my 1st hunters hunt, we got this beauty. He is ready to rut from the look of that neck!

A happy client with his best buck to date!

Success in spite of the guide!

Packing him to a saddle for better pictures. Don't try this at home!

Heading down the canyon. He has the cool stuff like horns and cape. I get the heavy stuff like the rest of him. Loaded the pack and took him out in one trip. Took multiple doses of advil and Pepsi later! :D Big bucks aren't very heavy! :D :D :D

that sure is some pretty country, a little rough and steep for my taste, but still awfully nice view.

good looking mule deer to boot, looks like everyone had a good time.

why do you have to leave the lion kill rack in the woods for? sounds like a goofy law to me.

Thanks for the pics.

Man! You would just never think that something that big could grow out there in the desert, would ya? WOW! :D That is one nice deer. I wish we had deer period out here.

You couldn't pay me enough to pack out a head like that in hilly country-I'd sure drape some orange on that rack. Some nice bucks for sure-it's hard to find a mulie that's good for mass, width and forks isn't it. Ty and I went out this A'm but we couldn't find any mulie bucks some deec whitetails though. It's froze hard enough finally that deer are moving here-when do your mulies rut down there-their still in bachelor groups up here.

We HAVE to leave any dead buck as Utah assumes we are all poachers and may be trying to bring out a poached buck instead of one that was lion supper or died of old age. Stupid law but law none the less!

We were in a private land area and took lots of precautions as to safety. Clients who get shot heading for the homestead don't tip well. We had orange on him after the picture! :D These bucks out here need to get to be 6 years old to start getting great bone on their heads. A lot of weak forked and willow horns. I love mass and extras but those bucks are rare around here. Our deer start rutting hard in November but they always start thinking about it as October closes out. Hope you guys score great bucks and we get to see the pictures! :D

Ty already got a not bad 7x5 it will go in the 170's. Not many mulies up in my zone but some hawg whitetails-Ty and Sara are going out in the A'M to try and get a buck with the muzzie. Most of the deer up here get massy and trashy-Ty got a 206 with double drops last year.
