Today I fed the last bale of hay and that meant I had to move the cows off of their "winter pasture" to some grass. The field they were on was chewed pretty short but I wanted to hold off moving them until the grass had a bit of top.

Well now with over two inches in the last 7 days, it got that top!

However, the thing that seemed kinda strange was that after a month and a half of nice, spring-like weather, I had to put fence up in a minor snow storm! Snow blowing right cross-ways with almost a foot of green grass underfoot!

At one point, my jacket had a solid layer of wet snow stuck to the windward side. Brrr. I guess I've already got my "summer blood" in my veins!

But tonight I've got the happiest cows in the country! (The calves, not so much!)

You think with our early May snow storms we can avoid the May long weekend blizzard we usually get .. :P

It's a blessing,my horses and cows went off hay about a month ago.Grass has been treating us nice. They no longer desire hay :) 8)And i no longer desire to feed it to them  .They just come in for water. And to see how i'm gettin' along :P

No guarantees. A couple of years ago our kids were at an annual, all-weekend, May 24 youth event called Pitch and Praise. 1500 or more kids slept in tents and shivered through that one with rain, snow and and a chilly wind. They all survived!

So it's not unusual to get snow in May.

But we do get upset if we see it in June . . . I said a few years ago that I refuse to light the furnace in June, July and August. :?

We finally got our summer yearlings out to grass yesterday. Boy I can tell you both man and beast were glad. They were drinving us crazy. Poor fences around the pasture they were in which works good until green grass starts up. They had their pasture grazed so low you could see a mouse at 800 yards and the hay they were eating was filling the bill. Hence, natural born fence crawlers....I don't think a goat can even compete.
