I downloaded all 350 pictures off my camera the other day. Hard to beleive that summer is almost gone, and kids are in school. Now I know what they mean when they say the older you get the faster time goes by.

We joined a local saddleclub and this is the first playday of the year. Mid July and 82 degrees.

My youngest on my dads horse. He has his own idea of what he wants to do. He kinda goes when he wants to with inexperienced riders.

Eldest at Rushmore music camp. Spent a tiring week there but had a lot of fun and she took full advantage of the opportunity as she was one of 8 out of 145 kids
to play in the Jazz band and sing in the Rushmore singers too.

County fair started as soon as eldest came home but she helped her little sister a lot.

What a great summer ya'll had! :D The Herefords are sure pretty as are the horses. Bet you lil' gals had a blast being a horseback and showing calves. Thank you so much for taking the time to let us share your photography skills! :D
 
Hello, I visit this site almost every day, and I always love all of the photo's everyone is posting.
I often read about 4H in postings here , and I haven't got a clue what that means, could someone enlighten me?
 
It's an organization based on teaching kids various things from working with cattle to baking and craftwork. Each club is different, although in some areas you only see beef clubs, other areas horse clubs, etc. It's great experience as most of the work is done by the kids, with simple guidance and support from the adults.
 
Nice pictures, SMN Herf. Looks like your family and livestock all had a very good summer. I really like the photo with the Hereford cow and calf on the green grassy ridge, with the big fluffy clouds in the background.

In the photo of the young man riding the Rhinososaurus, you can almost hear them coming. :wink: Your daughter's new paint mare is sporting the same brand as our black horse, Clavinova, that Peach often rides. He is sure a good horse and has had a lot of miles in his fourteen years. He was raised by Gary Coy from Glenrock, Wyoming, and we bought him as a three-year-old at the Black Hills Stock Show in 1999. Maurice Cotton, Piedmont, South Dakota, was the owner at that time, so I don't know which of the two has the Quarter Circle CP brand. Thanks for the pictures.
 
Enjoyed all the pictures--looks like a lot was accomplished while having fun! Great Hereford pictures.

Soapweed, would that Gary Coy be related to Bill Coy? He was a great horse trainer that was in the Buffalo, Wyo. area when we were growing up. Seems he moved to Torrington and this Gary could be related. If so, no wonder Peach's black horse is a great one! I would be interested in knowing.

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack the thread. Thanks for sharing the pictures and your daughter is on to something with the painting of that cat. Very neat technique! IMO anyway.

Gary Coy was named as the breeder on the registration paper, and that is all I know. :wink:

It is a small world. The quarter circle CP brand is Maurice Cotton's brand. We bought Sassy from him at the Corsica horse sale in May. She was a couple weeks shy of her 4th birthday at the time and is working out well. I wondered if I was crazy putting my 13 yr old girl on her, but she is really really quiet and just does everything Alison asks of her. I am challenged though teaching horsemanship to my daughter so she can train her horse.

It seems like when I visited wtih Maurice there was a connection to a place in Wyoming with him. Maybe it is through his wife, Carol but I am not sure though.

I guess that it depends on your definition of running smooth. Disorganized chaos might describe it better. :) :)

The cat picture was her first attempt at animals other than horses. It was kind of erie having that picture on the wall as it seemed like it was watching me no matter where I was in the room.
 
SMN Herefords--we have a part Siamese cat that we really like; maybe if I send your daughter a picture of him your daughter would be interested in painting him for us...for a fee, of course.

As for the horsemanship, if you just remember if she can't do it slow, she won't be able to do it fast. That helps a lot of things...going slow...til you get it right. Good luck to her and her nice mare!

That is kind of what we are doing. Lots of slow work. Working at getting some excersices for them to practice on.

She said she would love to try the painting of your cat. Cost would be minimum as she would like the practice.
