Anyone mind sharing a cheap feed ration for supplementing Preg cows. I usually do not feed anything but good Bermuda hay but this year due to drought I have ended up with some less than desirable crabgrass/Milo hay.

Figured I would feed a couple pounds of feed per head during the cold times. Most any ration I have used in past was more for Replacement heifers or show calves.

What kind of rations do you use?

We feed momma cows straight corn with a 5% supplement added. About a pound to a pound and half per head. We also feed hay during snow months, so the pound/head may be different for yall.

We feed the cows and heifers a protein soybean cube. of course we get it in by the semi-truckloads..so I am not sure if buying by the bag would be cost effeicient for ya. We feed 2lbs per cow in cool fall weather and then jump em up to 4lbs in cold winter, then back em off some when it's calving season...then usually just jump the heifers back up after they've calved till grass season. So that is my job...riding around in circles feedin critters everyday...It's a tuff job..lol

1/3 soy hulls,1/3 corn glutten,1/3 shelled corn feed 2-3 pds/hd/day. Last load we got in was $108/ton bulk, delivered. next one will be somewhat higher as corn has gone up some.

There's a plant in Nebraska...now don't quote me...Burwell that will make it on order..but it's not their usual...they do alfalfa cubes mostly. Honestly...I've never wondered where the cubes come from...I just load up and feed it..lol

Hey Faster Horses...I finally remembered to ask Hubby where he buys his cake from....It's not Burwell...we used to buy it there I guess, but not anymore...now it comes from a plant out of Colombus NEbraska. We buy 24 tons at a time, so get the bulk price. We have our own Truck so that helps with the cost of shipping too. Just thought I'd let ya know...
