Through the wonders of mismanagement, poor fences and just some bull with too much libido I've got two young cows to calve in January. Well the first blizzard of the year rolled in last night coinciding perfectly with arrival of the first calf. He had a inch of snow on him when I found it but I'm pretty sure he'd sucked. I just spent the last hour trying to coax his four year old mother-whose never spent a night in a hotel to come into the barn. I was cow trolling with him at the end of the lariet in the barn door-finally my best calf bleats and Shauna and Megan doing their best Bud Williams got her in. SO if you see a bull in my cows before the middle of JULY-PLEASE SHOOT HIM!!!!

IF I AM OUT THAT WAY BEFORE JULY AND SEE A BULL IN WITH THE COWS IT WILL PUT HIM DOWN FOR YA. I HAD A BULL GET IN EARLY WITH A HEFIER SHE CALVED LAST WEEK. LUCKILY NO BLIZZARD AND WEATHER WAS ABNORMALLY WARM. DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO BRING THEM IN THE BARN.

We must have all had that problem mine both calved a week ago when it was Around 40 degree's here. Two nice bull calves.

Who's Bud Williams?
NR, if you're calving now you are just a bull breeder...... We talked to a guy who sells bulls and he was getting calves at Christmas..

Not necessarily...we won't have have any calves until mid March. Although as nice as it's been we did say it wouldn't be so bad calving in the nice weather.

I know Katrina you didn't mean all of us, but not all bull breeders calve early.

Cheers---

I keep moving my calveing dates back and the calves are remaining pretty close to the same weight at weaning as when I calved in Febuary vs. march.I don't have good enough feed for winter calveing so I don't bother we have a few heifers'AI'ed to calve the end of Febuary cows won't start until mid march.

Katrina Bud Williams is the cattle handling guru-kind of like ray hunt in the horse business. If you ever get a chance to go to one of his clinics. A warning you'll be inclined to run the hotshot-kaiyaiing types off your place which isn't all bad. by the way nobody calves at Christmas but there's usually a big rush around Jan. 2 lol.

As you should any customers of mine who've used him have been pleased. One other thing is he crosses well on the EXT's takes a little of the psychosis out of them.
