We went for a drive yesterday to Silver City, Idaho. It is a historic old mining town in the Owyhee mountains about 25 miles by road east of Jordan Valley Ore. It was very big back in its day. Supposed to be 2,500 people living there. The first town in the territory to have telegraph and a newspaper. It was the Owyhee County seat from 1868 to 1934. It sort of gets billed as a ghost town but it is hardly that. The ghosts are selling trinkets to the tourists. But it does have a hotel that was built there in 1868. Lots of old buildings but many are seasonally occupied. The town sits at 6,800 feet so I think most people leave before winter hits. The old historic hotel is open from May through October. The terrible nasty road passes a number of old falling down structures showing that the area was a bustling mining district back in the day. When I say the road is nasty, it took an hour to drive the last 8 miles. A vehicle with high clearance is recommended. The first picture is the old hotel.
