We went had to go to the city and pick up a pump motor yesterday, so since I didn't have to drive, I took some pictures..I apologize for the rail in the photos, but I am scared of heights and so for me to even look down to take the photos is just short of a miracle..
this is the canyon that Evil Knievel tried to jump

Yanuck,

I was just there Monday and Tuesday....

I was setting up some Equipment for a guy about 3 miles East of the Bridge. I get there a bit and today was kinda cussing myself. I was on the road that goes to Shoshone Falls. I have been to Twin Falls a lot and have NEVER taken the time to go down and take a look... I do that too often,

While I don't remember the 1 number phone numbers, I do remember when our phone number was EMerson 3 and it was a party line- and our ring was 2 longs and a short... Used to love listening in to the neighbor girls discussing their love lives and then teasing them about it on the bus in the morning- they'd squeal and pretend they were mad-- but I think they loved it....Mom would about kill us if she caught us listening in on someone- and back then there wasn't a phone in every room- just one in Moms kitchen and she had control over that- and who used it and why.....

If we wanted to call the north ranch where Grandma and Grandpa lived we used to have ring up the long distance operator and and ask for Northstar 1... Couldn't dial that one direct....

What a change- now if I walk out of the house without my cell phone- I feel half naked

We had a wooden telephone hanging on the wall when I was a kid, and it was certainly the only telephone in the house. It always resembled a "face" to me. The two ringer bells on top looked like eyes, and the speaker mechanism resembled a nose. The shelf on the lower part was the mouth. Dad was over six feet tall, and my mother stood just a tad over five feet. The speaker gizmo looked like a nozzle, and it was adjusted into the up position for Dad. Mom couldn't reach it even in the down position, so there was a little step stool under the phone for her to stand on. Our number was 12F20. The "2" and "0" at the end represented that our ring was two longs and zero shorts. Yes, it was always fun to listen in on the neighbors' calls on the ol' party line.

Yep- that was the same kind of phone Grandma and Grandpa had- and they had a stool too for Grandma or us kids to use...But we never got to call out- as long distance cost money- and the only times I remember talking is when Dad or Mom or some other cousin called to talk to us...

At that time we were one of the only ones that had a phone-- then later when they reran new lines they wouldn't run one down there (unless we paid the costs) because we were so remote-- so for several years had no phone at the north place- then got a mobile phone (that worked part of the time)...Now have fiber optics- and a cell tower a couple miles over the hill

I remember it was sometime back in the early sixties that we went from a party line to a private line. Modern technolgy is wonderful. Now that I am deaf I have a Cap-tel phone. It is a TTY with closed captioning. It uses 2 phone lines. One for use to whoever calls me and one to the closed captioning center. All I do is push a button on the phone. It also has a memory where I can store up to 400 telephone conversations. I have a USB port hooked to my computer so I can print out coversations. It also will print out calls that are left on my answering machine. I love it! :D

Sounds like us, we haven't ever driven to the bottom either, always in a hurry to get there, get what you need and get home again! a person should stop and look around once in awhile I guess! We are 60 miles north of Twin if you get up this way ever... stop in!
