Still looking for wayward bovines. Found 6 and now only missing 7. Nerve-wracking but they'll show up. It's just tough getting around the desert unless the county plows the roads, which soon drift back in thanks to the wind. Pushing a few down to a cattle gaurd and fence where we used three panels and the fence as a wing and got em' loaded. Wasnt talented enough to take pics as we loaded them.
Phil and his son took the cows and headed for the wire trap on the desert where we had another cow and truck/trailer. I took the horses and idled along down the road til one of them came back to get us. Looking west at the snowy Simpson range.
It was cool and clear. A road grader makes a fine trail to ride one and pony one.
Probably 18 inches of snow here. Looking back toward the ranch.
I hauled my saddle 80 miles around the long way on the highway and met Phil. He supplied a horse for said saddle. I rode cisco and led bandit. Phil has lost so much weight he's invisable!
Had to ride about 90 minutes til my ride showed up. Crazy thing is, today where i just rode, the same road is blown in level full with snow. It just keeps coming.
The west desert was kinda hazy and foggy in spots. Atleast where i was, the sunlight had burned it's way through. But it wasnt packing many BTU's. That's Keg Mountain back there behind the fog, where i have been fencing, but not lately!
Pretty fierce cow dog eh? That's our pup gus and a dogie heifer we are feeding out to eat. They can't figure out what they think of each other.
Couldnt get back on the desert today as the wind howled for three straight days and the drifts are NUTS! So i took a ride in the truck up by my place just to see what the snow looked like. Atleast i am smart enough to follow the graders. 24" about 3 miles from my place. And another 3 inches fell today.
Never want to tell it to stop, but......it's sure making the wood pile melt.
Juab county will be working to open the roads out on the desert starting monday. Gonna take horses and snowmobiles and go find those last 7 head. Meanwhile, over by my place another flurry was coming in out of the west.
A feller could drive around tossing lit cigarettes and roman candles out the windows and never lite anything more than his eyebrows. But that sign is there just incase global warming really does catch on i guess!   It's tough to believe i live on a desert with a winter like this one. Tonight it's -14F but atleast it quit snowing.
