A powerful winter storm first brought significant snowfall across
portions of western Wyoming Saturday night through Sunday night,
before shifting some significant snowfall east of the Divide Sunday
night and Monday. Below are preliminary snowfall totals and peak
wind gusts for this event. A final statement for this storm is
likely on Tuesday as additional reports are received. Casper broke
the daily snowfall record for December 5th with 7.1 inches of snow.
The old record was 5.8" set in 1978.

1978? Yikes! That winter was a doozy. Hope we aren't in for that again.

Stay warm, stay safe everyone!

-30C here this morning. Supposed to be like this and colder until the 16th :(

How many of you pick up income from the local government for snow removal? I have two small towns and the county hiway this year - - - both small towns 2" of more I roll and the county 8" or more I roll.

I don't mess with the strip malls as every guy with a pick-up and blade will push snow for next to nothing - - - I just get called to them after they have been totally messed up and want me to come fix the mess.

George, we live miles from everywhere, at the bottom of a real mean hill. I was told by Dept. of Hiways that I am illegal if I pull someone up or out of ditch with tractor burning farm/colored fuel. Also if someone hit me while doing work on hiway I would be libel. That being said it doesn't mean I will leave someone stranded on the road and have pulled out friends and cleared a path when needed.
Last Xmas eve I got a call from a towing company a couple hours away to see if I could help a car out of ditch close to us. I had just bought a 4x4 with a winch so got to try it out. Seems like I have lots of good will built up as nobody seems to pull out a $20 ever.

I pulled a guy out yesterday he lost control on our road which is glare ice right now. I hooked the chain told him how to position the wheels and said leave it in neutral. He said thanks but I don't expect money. I had Lane run home and get some salt and we salted the road before the RR Tracks. Today the area isn't as slippery as all the traffic has spread the salt quite aways.

Years ago during a bad winter, we had a knock on the door, late....and a door we don't normally use. When I opened it a very bedraggled woman was standing there. She was drunk and had walked quite a ways to our place. She said something about being stuck in the snow. So Mr. FH went to see about her car. She wasn't only stuck, she had tried to get out of the snow (she had run off the road), continually spun her tires and her car was on fire!!! Lucky she could walk away.

Learned a few years back, a guy contacted me to winch him out of the ditch on a major hiway. I said sure but he would have to connect the winch line to his vehicle...... pulled the bumper out first. :D :D

I just tell 'em "hook up to whatever you want out"
