OT, Do you know what she was wearing when she made this statement?

What city/town was it made in? What time of day did she make this statement?

I'm sure some would be interested to know.

Yep- I thought Janets "save the starving children" comment had hit almost every Ag publication, email news, coffee shop and barroom in rural America..........

Then you shouldn't have any problems naming publications that carried this quote. Just one will do.

Thank You Sandhusker-- This is getting to remind me of Maxine- who openly admits she doesn't keep up with whats happening-- only follows what her NCBA handlers tell her-- but then comes on here months later and questions the source of everything- altho the source was put on here several times with the original post ...

If its that important why aren't these folks following the issues as they happen rather than just following what they are told later at some high faluting party/convention by folks that only tell them what they want them to know...... One of my pet Peeves... :(

Don't think so. This is not a publication. It's someone's personal website.

My mom is on this thing with my dad. She says my dad is always 2 or 3 sentences behind in the convesation. It got to be paragraphs when I was there. They only kid about that kind of stuff.

Kinda reminds me of that, Beefman.

Guess I'm unable to set up camp all day long on this site, so I might've missed it earlier. I asked a simple enough question for a reputable source of the Janet Riley quote. If anyone can provide it OT, I know it'll be you.

Go ahead and prove me right.

Well- I'll give you some places to start-- These are the daily news emails I get-- BEEF, meatinghouse, cattlenetwork, Agweb, Agriville, all google newsarticles world wide with "Mad cow" or "BSE" in them, Drovers, about 6 -7 more I can't remember- plus publications of Agri-news, BEEF, Drovers, Cattleman Journal, Tri State, Western Livestock Journal, Prairie Star plus a few more I can't remember-- Plus Livestock briefing, kiticam, and a couple more sights I try to get to daily just seeing the current events...

I actually think rancher posted the initial statement on here (4/11/05) a couple weeks before the local Ag pubs picked up on it and I saw it in press- and a lot of his info came from Canadian news articles- so that could have been the initial source- possibly in a speech.....Since so many saw it up here I'd guess possibly the Agri-News since that is heavily read in this area.....

And I don't need to look it up - I saw it and read it-- and many others in my little podunk part of the world saw it-- so I know it was there....

This quote, if it is legitimate and not a misquote, is an incredibly stupid statement for anyone from AMI to make. Cattlemen's checkbooks should be just as important as anyone else's checkbook. The person who made this statement should have been fired on the spot.

The stupidity of this statement ranks right up there with Bullard's "because you don't produce enough beef to satisfy your own domestic market, you don't need an export market to distribute your production" or Lying King's "Prices can't go up unless supplies come down".

About as incredibly stupid as calling Consumer's Union "anti-beef".

Thanks for taking the time to respond. If you saw it...fine.....I won't question you further. However, this quote IS NOT available via any search engines for any of the publications you mention, which is most unusual. It makes the quote very suspect.

Beefman- In trying to find that original article, I did come across an article and website that I didn't know existed-- and some of the publications on it contain much worse propoganda than even Janet said...

Sure shows a desperation the Packers had to get to their Packer owned Canadian cattle........

AMI launches Web site to urge reopening of Canadian border

by Pete Hisey on 5/20/2005 for Meatingplace.com

The American Meat Institute yesterday launched a new Web site that highlights what it sees as "the urgent need to restore full cattle and beef trade with Canada."

The Web site, www.openbeefborders.com , contains a series of links to articles chronicling the increase in slaughter capacity north of the border, a full timeline of the bovine spongiform encephalopathy crisis, links to international standards and publications, and studies of the economic impact of the border closing.

Sandcheska: "About as incredibly stupid as calling Consumer's Union "anti-beef"."

What? No mention of Carol Tucker Foreman and her statements about beef?

R-CULT would have quoted Al Gore or John Kerry had either claimed that Canadian beef was "high risk" and "contaminated". The end would justify the means to those with no credibility.

~SH~

Funny I searched and could only find it on Northern farmers blogspot. strange how it has disappeared.

The only thing close was her talking about the people put out of work in Gering NB. and more that would be layed off..

And you're talking about credibity!

So, taking baby steps here, have you got over the notion that CU is anti-beef yet?

....but they didn't. Instead you had to make it up.....again.......

Isn't it tiresome to continually see OT posting lies?

In this thread alone he claims NCBA is "tied at the hip blind support of everything AMI says or does....."

Making that statement, either out of total ignorance statement, or in a deliberate attempt to mislead people, OT demonstrates his own foolishness or deviousness.

Then there is his claim of "....Maxine--who openly admits she doesn't keep up with what's happening.....follows what her NCBA handlers tell her...".

Riduculous! Sure, I've stated occasionally that I do not attempt to keep up to the minute on EVERY issue affecting the cattle/beef industry. Who truly does so?????

My guess is there are plenty of people who read a quote, then weeks or months later can recall the quote, but not the person who made it, or the source of publication. OT sees that as virtually criminal when my recall fails his 'test'.....!

How many of you reading ranchers.net take the time to read the huge number of sources OT claims to read EVERY DAY????? Good grief, most of us have work to do and lives to lead!

Sorry to get tough on you, OT, but you really need to get out and live a little! It just might clear your head so you could comprehend reality.

Didn't think of it as being tough Maxine-- Your admittance of your ignorance on many subjects was already quite apparent by many of your posts...

I'm just glad I have the time to keep myself informed so I can keep you corrected on your mistakes in your posts-- feel free to ask me anytime...I would definitely rather have you getting knowledge from sources that look at both sides rather than the handlers you have been following who give you only their side of the story......

Don't worry about OT ,Maxine. He doesn't have to get out and work. He's independantly wealthy from his pension for his many years in law enforcement. How many years were you sheriff, OT?

By the way I couldn't find that quote in any scources except Northern farmer.

Me, too, BMR. But I DID NOTICE that AMI has MANY press releases on their site that they have REMOVED for some reason. You don't suppose that the press release with THAT quote in it has been pulled, do you? Hmmm.

I suppose AMI could have done that. Funny tho that if it was reported so widely that it wouldn't show up in some other media scource. :???:
