This picture was also used on the 1964 Nebraska Hereford Directory with the following dedication.

The Nebraska Hereford Association dedicates this Cover Page to Mr. and Mrs. Ed Belsky, Merriman, Nebraska. The Belskys have just recently retired after serving many years as lovers and breeders of Herefords. In the cover picture Steve Moreland gazes at his 30-minute-old calf with great pride as the mother, a Belsky-bred cow, looks on anxiously. Steve is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Moreland of Merriman, and a progressive young Hereford man in his own right.

This picture is in connection with Cute Pic on April 26.

you don't see a lot of pics like that with angus cattle.

a buddy of mine helped move cows to grass this weekend. he could not believe how we walked cows in and around the lots, and corrals. then right up on the trailer. as I followed a group up the chute, he said " you are going in there with them??? my black cattle would eat you for lunch if you went in there"

made me proud to run the quiet old Hereford cows.

Soap, you are always welcome to come back over the fence

Every time we have something happen on our place and the vet comes out he tells us,"If it had been Angus we would have all been dead."

Hey thanks for posting that, really cute pic.

My neighbors run a mish mash of cattle they have everything in there, galloway, herf, simmi ,chars etc. They are the most wild, meanest cattle ever.
Each year when they drive the cattle I always end up with a few guests in my pasture where they jump the 6 foot tall fence onto our property. Once they have been with me for a few weeks they become different calmer cattle. Then the neighbors show up to load them and they turn into mean beasts again..
There are mean, flighty cattle out there but I think the way you handle them has alot to do with it. The guys that see their cows a couple times of year probably have a little higher strung cattle.

I agree HD. Kinda goes back to the philosophy that there are more differences within breeds than between breeds. I like Herefords in general for their disposition, but I've had a very few that would just as soon kill you as look at you. Those kind go down the road at the first opportunity.
