Saturday evening we went to Coronach for the "Outlaw Festival" I ran into a friend Ben Crane from Alberta. He's a Poet/singer/cartoonist/lunatic.
Miss Tam gave him one of her book about the Big Muddy and he gave her one of his CD's "Off My Rocker".

It had a song on it that made me think of you. It was about a couple of guys that took a couple of fat mules for a ride in the mountains.
It's called "Itchin' for a Britchin'" That could be you one of these days.

You just never know, it might very well be. If I thought it would bring on a rain, this ol' fat guy would head out on his mule right after breakfast.

When we rode mules to the bottom of the Grand Canyon in 1997, we used britchings on the ten mile trip down (there is a loss in altitude of right at a mile in this ten mile journey). On the way back up the next day, they didn't use breast collars, which surprised me. They (the wranglers) just made sure all the cinches were good and tight. The britchings were not attached that day, either, but were just tied up on the back of the saddles.

Ben Crane :D Greg and I are BIG fans of his,we seen him with Don Wudel, lots of laughs....Soapweed would really enjoy both these characters :-)

I knew Don Wudel from my college days then re- aquainted doing poetry. Also Fred Miller and Bryn Theisen. We even knew Brenna Daly when she was about 6.

We took that mule ride, too, but in Feb. one year. It was a blizzard at the top of the canyon and warmish down at the bottom. I couldn't tell you what the mule gear was like- I was too petrified my mule Ike would step over the icy edge where he constantly nibbled grass.

If Don is the little stubby, one eye'd poet, I met him at Elko in 97. Good poet and a funny guy. We had a great visit when we were waiting for our plane to come home.

Yep Don is the little stubby one eyed guy. Fred Miller is the taller one eyed guy.
