the other day I was busy baling hay, neighbor called and said I had 4 pair in his corn. I went and found 4 walking out of his corn back into the pasture for water... right through the gate !! some ash had opened the electric gate and just flung it into the pasture!!

well I thought it was all ok, saw a group of cows down by the pond, was too busy to go count, went back to baling...

this morning, two miles from home I get a call....17 pair are out!! so, across on neighbors alfalfa, one neighbors beans, two creeks and finally a half section of my beans we get them home.... probably about $5,000 worth of damages or more!

all from some ash who thought it would be cool to open a gate!

ya may have to build a real gate and chain it up. these a-holes you are talking about are probably lazy a-holes aswell. a gate other than an electric wire would probably look like way to much work to open for them.

I had the same problem about a month ago. My neighbor calls and said I had 45 cows are out in his wheat field and he was pissed of at me. So I hauled ash out to the pasture get the cows in which wasn't the whole heard and started looking at how the got out and some body backed into my fence and broke all four wires  . I could tell that they did this by the tire tracks and the the damm ruts they had to leave from pulling on all four wires.

Been there..Done that. They stole my camera :( I put it in a rock pile about 15 feet from the gate. I'm afraid of escalation. Seems like the ones causing problems have nothing to lose. Ever notice that?

Dejavu you are right about that :!: With my deal what really made me mad was if someone was either trying to get a bull out or whatever let someone know that YOU knocked the fence down. Dont drive away and not tell someone.

Jigs I bet you was pissed I know I would have been, somehow rig the handle so when they touch it they get schocked maybe that would help. Dont know how to go about it just throwing ideas out.

Had that happen a number of years ago on some state land we lease. A road goes through it and some jerk didn't put the gate back up. Our cows were out in the neighbors wheat.
I was so mad I called the State lease guys and they said to go ahead and take out the gate.
You should have seen all the tracks coming up to the now gone gate that first year.

tenbach we got chewed out last month by a neighbor because our cows got out. They broke all the wire's on a four strand fence. Busted 2 fence posts and lifted one completely out of the ground. Dang cows were scratching on it. Neighbor threatened to shoot our cows if they ever got out again. Not too sure if he was drunk or high when he said that.
They got out again this evening. He was pretty dang nice to me.

Diamond harrows burried upside down in the gate at least gives you some satisfaction

We've had the fence cut twice and the lock on a gate cut off once this year! People get away from town and civilization and do whatever they want! They drink Natural Light as the cans were scattered all the way up the canyon! I'd like to catch them but then again, maybe it's better if I don't! Whatever ya do, don't open yourself for trouble. I remember a story about a farmer who kept losing fuel to a siphon hose and a gas can. Tracks were plain as day around his equipment. So he set a large foot hold trap and covered it with sand by the combine. They thief won a lawsuit against the farmer? Hope ya don't have any more troubles but as long as ya have livestock ya usually will!

An old fella near here bordered on a reservation, and I guess a couple of the young fellas were often in need of gas for there pickup. Ole Sandy wanted to catch them pretty bad, so he simply switched the stickers around on his diesel and gas tanks. The culprits truck was found very near the scene of the crime, and a visit to the chief saw justice delivered extremely effictively.

They must be broke that Natty Light is some tough beer in my book.

with Natty Light, I would rather pour out the beer and eat the can...except it sterilizes the ground where you pour it !
