I helped (not that it was needed) lazy ace and his Dad bring in our heifers. They rode and Holly the Super Corgi and I drove the Ranger. I thought I'd take some pics, and share.

Cheers---

Fall triticale-
It's not nearly as good as Red Robin's fescue, but it's green and growing and we're pretty excited 'bout it, even though it's only about 3 inches tall!

Wish I was there TTB. The difference in your triticale and my fescue is the amount of acres. You have alot and I have a little. It doesn't matter much how tall it is when a cow steps on it .Nice looking pictures and cattle and facilities again. Congratulations.

I like your Corgi's expression: I'm right where I belong- in the driver's seat.

Im just curious is all, I was wondering if you had any NDSU research students doing work on your ranch as my daughter is in grad school at NDSU and has her project out of Hettinger.( In Animal Range Science)..but has worked for NDSU for many yrs during the summer months between ND and SD and I remember her saying it was a Red Angus breeder...And you have some awesome looking livestock...we showed alot in Dickinson and meet alot of great Red Angus breeders. Keep up the great work...

Great pics. I sure hope your Triticale isn't froze and under snow by morning. It sure was a cold windy day here. We trailed 100 hd. 10 miles from town to a winter pasture. Just in case.

Good lookin cattle and facilites, thanks for posting the pictures Turkey Track Bar,I been wanting to try the guardrail for pens a long time, just never have found any,or the time..............good luck & take care.

Old skinflint probably leases them out to the residents of Big Beaver as lawn mowers or fertilizer spreaders

One of my neighboring ranchers took his cows to town on a nice outing this fall. They seemed to enjoy the experience, and were much more sophisticated after hob-nobbing in society.

We had a neighbor try tritacle last year or the year before but he spring planted it... Never did ask him how it turned out.. We usually plant a hay bariety Barley for hay or for grazing in our annual fields or oats... Oats sure are cheaper to plant but we get more tonnage and better feed out of the barley... Need to ask him how the tritacle worked out.. That is a Cereal Rye X Wheat right?

Thanks for the complements everyone!

nr: There is no doubt 'bout it, Holly runs this outfit. We may think we do, but the fact of the matter is, Holly does!

Soap: Lazy Ace and I wondered what BMR's cows were doing in town too. If our cows are in town, we've got a big wreck on our hands! Of course, town's a little further than 10 miles for us too.

BMR: After our dry summer, snow looks pretty good to us. Here in Bismarck, it's snow and blowing, like, well, I can't put that here! Looking at the radar, it doesn't look we're getting anything at home :(

IL Rancher...I am not the farmer of this outfit. I can't really even drive these new fangled tractors very well. I do believe that you have the DNA of the triticale correct. I know that it's popularity as a grazed forage has increased a lot. My Dad in SW Colorado grazes irrigated triticale, and has to pretty much overstock to keep up with it. There's a really innovative rancher north of Bismarck, ND, Gabe Brown who also grazes lots of "non-traditional" forages, triticale being one of them. Our plan with the stuff is to fall graze, then hay in the spring/summer. If the crop is good enough we might actually take some seed off, then no-till corn back on it. I should have included that it was no tilled in (which most could probably tell.) Maybe lazy ace will add to this subject. All I know is the heifer's love it!!!

Haymaker...

I have to admit that I'm not so found of the guardrail. It's so sharp that I worry about critters and human getting cut up on it. I also have heard that if you're in a wreck with a mad beast it's dang hard to get on and over. We generally don't have that problem, but we do use that corral you see as a nurse pen after heifers have calved. But, I will say I have looked it over and given it some thought as do how I'd get my yield grade 7 or 8 body over that stuff. It has made nice corralling, but I don't know if it's the best or not. It is what we have, so I'll be happy about it!

desertrose...

We haven't had any grad students at our place (at least in recent times) however I wonder if she did some work with Tony and Karen Messmer, Messmer Red Angus at Richardton. They often work with students, and are some of the finest folks in our breed.

Have a wonderful day everyone---

Cheers---

Pretty salty looking cattle, TTB. Very nice. Always love the pics, particularly when there's quality critters and country to be observed. No shortage of that here on Ranchers.

Looks like Holly likes your Polaris as Corky likes ours :D He likes to stand on the floor with his head sticking out. He also likes to jump on the seat and sit behind sw, head sticking out.

Nice facilities! Wanna come and redo ours?? Don't think we'll do the guard rails, though.

Right now it is 2 below 0, clear as a bell, bet it gets close to -10. BRRRRrrrrrrrrrr. Not ready for winter yet!!

Didn't you guys know that black cows just love town on a Saturday nite.

Actually we call the pastures beside town the town pastures. We also used to trail the yearlings to town to ship out on the train. Did that for to many years to break the habit of saying we are bring the cattle home from town.

I just about forgot. If that Cogri is smart enough to drive that thing why isn't she smart enough to take TTB's picture.

TTB----great pictures!! Love the green fields.......just a bit jealous is all!!
  Everything here is covered with a nice, cold layer of the white stuff!!!! :P :P :P :P
LOVE the corgi, too....geeee, maybe you and I could get together and work on cowboyup to getting me one of those for Christmas!! whatcha think?????

Great pictures, thanks. Wish we'd gotten our fall triticale planted...it still would've been seed in the ground tho...no moisture. Yours looks great.
And Holly is too cute :)
