Your cattle sure look to be doing well.I've got grass as tall and taller than that and my cows keep getting out on the hi-way spent this evening rebuilding a stretch along the road so they should behave now.People who put up one wire electric fence on a perimeter should be beat with a club.
 
Beautiful. Like your country and cattle. Where abouts in ND are you ? I used to travel ND some ,years ago. Don't think I ever got much west of Jamestown. Is that the town that has the large Buffalo statue ??
 
Thank you for the compliment Denny. It's been a great year in our area...for which we are forever blessed. Hope you have better luck keeping your bossies in. We had a couple habitual offenders of fence and tank crawling; who got a free ticket to a new career on someone else's plate a week and a half ago, and they even brought a good price. Hope yours learn quicker than ours!

Thank you efb. We are located about 125 miles southwest of Bismarck, or about 130 +/- miles northwest of Pierre, SD, or about 70 miles west of Mobridge SD. Our ranch is in South Dakota; but I spend on average 5/7ths of my week traversing North Dakota! You are correct, Jamestown is the ND town with the Buffalo (really Bison) statue (worlds largest Buffalo I believe they proclaim) along with also being home to three albino Bison.

You know, I forgot to post one of my favorite pictures...I took it yesterday. I was just a hair too late; if I had been quicker the photo would have only been of the pair, but the other cow just had to ruin my photo! :D

Wow, nice palomino. I like his attitude that is portrayed in your picture. Tell us more, please. And tell us more about the 4 year old roan.
 
AX-...Have you gotten any moisture? I hope so. I am almost embarrassed to post these photos when I know Western ND, Eastern MT and CO are so terribly dry. We have some dandies out of the the 3M bull. I hope they continue to shine like they have up to now. Red Robin should be proud of him.

Thanks for the nice words on the cows.

Horses...the palomino is a 3 year old...she and the 4 year old roan are actually half sibs...They are both out of a little roan Snippys Cowboy and Sun Frost bred mare we call Roan (yes, very creative!) She just is a peach of a gal...sweet as can be.

I can't recall who Macaroani's (the 4 yo roan) sire is. We bought the Roan mare bred with him, but I can go back and look, if you'd like. He's as steady Eddie as they come, and loves working cows. I love his personality...doesn't get too worked up about much! But, yet he still has so much cowsense.

The three year old palomino filly, "Itchy," is pretty cowy and catty and has a lot of desire and determination. She has a little more get up and go than Macaroani, but is by no means broncy. Itchy's sire is a son of Frenchman's Guy that we raised. I think that is where her cattiness, desire and determination come from.

BHR Cowboy Joe Frost, below, is Itchy's full brother. He has been Roan's project this summer!

TTB - We went from basically no rain through July with 100+ temps to 5.5 inches this month. We pulled cows from one pasture and starting that night, the rains began. Things look real good now :D

Great photo's, and they sure give the impression that ND is doing good this summer,,hope it's that way for everyone there. Cattle and horses look dang good..thanks
 
Thanks everyone!

Jassy...things look like Eden in South Dakota compared to most of North Dakota. I'd say most of the western half of North Dakota looks as bad as we did in north central South Dakota two years ago. Lots of cows have been or are going to be sold. I have heard there were some weeks where over 5000 cows were sold in Western North Dakota (some of those probably are from eastern MT, too.)

I only hope and pray that these really dry areas get rain soon.

Oh yeah they show our part too Big Muddy...I heard a lot of folks just south of the border from you are selling down on cows because of the lack of grass and especially hay...The CRP hay ruling and the drought apparently have left many short this year....

Great cattle and great pastures TTB. Always nice to see pics like those.

We're fairly dry here right now, but most of the summer was decent moisture, and we have plenty of pasture that hasn't been touched yet. We are downsizing a little though. Rkaiser's selling some of his Galloways that we have here on shares, and we'll sell 20-30 head between now and November. The 150head we bought in February came with some excess baggage. :wink: Cows that were supposed to be papered and actually can't be. Ah well, ya win some.....ya take some in the keester.
 
Were dry here now but every field has ran over on hay from last year I also have 30 acres of Barley to combine and 90 acres of corn to chop so I should have enough feed this winter the corn could sure use some water.My cows came through last winter in the poorest shape they have ever been in hay was $80 to $100 a bale last year and winter lasted into may.I had 20 bales of 3 year old swamp grass left over that is'nt even good bedding.
