Southern Alberta feeders?

Long time ago, I was up around Picture Butte--think they called that area 'feedlot alley'?

I'm wondering--the dollar's about even, think they had a pretty good year up thataway---any U.S. calves going that way, what the markets like, etc

Any input appreciated~~
 
My undrestanding is not many US calves coming north. Your market, (depending what area) is .20 to.30 higher than here. Uncertainty with the XL plant has been a big factor.

The week Soapweed sold his big steers, 590 @ 1.66, 600 lb steers in BC were bringing 1.32-36. Alberta is normally a nickel higher because of frieght.

what week was that? be curious to see what same weights brought in Lethbridge that week. The week i sold my steers balog quoted what those steers would bring at his place two day prior and was same as what they brought about 400 miles south of there. so outside of costs associated with going thru boarder (don't know for sure) I would have put $40/hd in my pocket assuming 0 dollars going thru border. backhauls into CAN drive right by regularly. right after all that irrigation went in around taber where some of the best prices we got. no freight penciled in, no shrink pencil, slide both ways. really need to look back into going north and all the details - would be something and it wasn't all that difficult to change MT policy to get females back coming into MT.

yu woud think with high fuel/feed costs that our two countries would be taking advantage of where some of that could be made up.
 
The week was Sept 27. Those same type calves now are topping 1.41-44. Haven't paid much attention to the US market lately. What are 6 weight calves bringing in your area now? The basis is a b!tch.
