The Oxford University Press has issued a new guideline to authors stipulating that they should avoid using pork-related words.

According to the top academic publisher, mention of pork products–or pigs in general–should be left out of children's schoolbooks so as to avoid offending Muslim or Jewish students.

Labour PM Khalid Mahmood, who is Muslim, also said the move was "ludicrous."

"That's absolute, utter nonsense and when people go too far that actually brings the whole discussion into disrepute," Mahmood added.

Jewish leaders are also confused by the new guidelines, seeing that keeping Kosher doesn't prohibit reading about pigs.

political correctness run amuck.. .

Three Little Pigs 'too offensive'

A story based on the Three Little Pigs fairy tale has been turned down by a government agency's awards panel as the subject matter could offend Muslims.

The digital book, re-telling the classic story, was rejected by judges who warned that "the use of pigs raises cultural issues".

The feedback from the judges explaining why they had rejected the CD-Rom highlighted that they "could not recommend this product to the Muslim community".

They also warned that the story might "alienate parts of the workforce (building trade)".
