I went to renew my firearms aquisition certificate recently. In order to get the documents to buy a gun or ammo here in Canada my wife must sign the application form. Can you believe it!!!!! Could you imagine the feminist outcry if a husband had to sign a form for his wife to buy anything! The discrimination against males is getting worse every day!

:o  Oh,Ohh..greg just got notified he had to renew his,man is he going to be Pe-od.......but on the other hand Maybe it can work in my favor :P

Seriously though thats total BS,from even having to have a FAC,to registering guns,to having the wife sign for the FAC. I was hoping that the registry was going to be dropped with Harper, but I watched the parents of the girl killed at Dawson saying they are going to fight for TOUGHER gun laws, how can our gun laws get any tougher. Pretty soon the only one carring guns will be the criminals

when I sent the form in without my wifes' signature the flagged my application and I have been getting phone calls from them. Now they want to talk to my wife before they will issue my FAC.

I dont think we will see the long gun registrie dropped while the conservatives have such a slim majority. All the money that has been wasted could have gone to much more fruitfull causes. How many billion has been wasted ?

Ok Faster you lost me :???: How can our gun registry have anything to do with the States...it was implemented by a bunch of uninformed liberal and NDP Canadians.Too many people think guns kill people, not that people kill people.

I am not FH...but think she meant "us" as in "wives". JMO...

TTB

I think she was bein funny, meaning men need women. Nothin to do with ya'll needin the US.

Correct me if I'm wrong FH.

ON another note.....somethin that blew my mind was when Mr Lilly had a lil bit of a minor surgery a few years back.......snip snip  ......I had to go with him for the consultation...and sign paperwork sayin it was ok for him to do that........THEN when he had the actual appt.....I had to go with him again, which I was plannin on doin anyway but, they made me sign papers again saying I gave my permission for him to have it done.....Like I'M his mama or somethin!!!!! I thought that was stupid too. That's his business whether or not he goes thru with somethin like that. We'd talked about it and agree'd on it. But I still don't think it's MY place to say 'yes you can, or no you can't' to somethin like that.

I just applied for the PAL on Monday. I agree, the amount of contacts and such was ludicrous. Just happy I am neither married nor divorced, as I got to skip about a page and 1/2 of the application. Hopefully, the Conservatives do make an effort to repeal the gun registry, as I won't be buying any new guns until I know that the buggers won't be able to find them.

I also got wind of the parents of the dead teenager from Montreal saying that they were going for tougher gun laws. The only change I can see coming is to ban all restricted weapons. Heck, you can't do anything with them at this point anyway...besides the firing range...whoop dee doo. :?

Grumble... What a pain in the butt... WE have FOID in illinois to buy guns and ammo... Plus waiting periods (24 hours on long gun, 3 day on handgun)... Thing is every time a crime is cmmitted i90% the time existing gun laws would have/should have covered the situation.. Yet they go looking for more laws to apply so more gun laws can be broken... Doesn't make sense..

Doesn't make sense is right. Some wise soul said that we have laws to give the impression that our country is safe. We then have a judiciary/legal and penal system to give the impression that the law is working!

Yes, 'us' meaning wives...sorry that I confused you Mrs. Greg.

I thought it was time for a gentle reminder to the menfolk here. :P

It is sort of like letting men have a taste of what women endured for all those years when only MEN could vote,
only MEN would inherit the land,
only MEN could be passed down the family business...
But in all fairness, women DID get to do the laundry

Here is one good reason to have a wife sign: we have known a couple for 20 some years and slowly the husband became totally paranoid, just as his brother and his father did. Must be a genetic problem. He became very suspicious of everything, especially of his sweet and patient wife. Then began accusing her of many things, had her phone bugged, car bugged etc, began threatening her. And he owned guns. For her safety, she got her own place whih relieved us. In a situation like that, if a husband sought to buy a gun for the first time it might be a real life saver for the wife's input. A sad story but just thought I'd mention it.[/b]

If it makes you feel any better elwapo, my husband had to sign when I got my FAC. It's not just wives, its spouses. Annoying but I guess there are enough kooks out there that they want the wife/ex/wife etc to know when their spouse gets a gun.

nr. I'm supposing your reason is the real reason behing the signature,my problam with that is a woman or man staying with a person he or she doesn't trust enough to have a gun. Another point was indirectly brought up by Angus...parents that are not together...think mom or dad will sign that piece of paper, somtimes "no" as a get back at you thing. No matter this Canadian gun registry is a total farce that has not stopped any gun killings at all. Criminals don't register there guns  :!:

lets be clear on one thing. We know the reason the spouse has to sign is because it has, in the past, been men killing women generally. It was politically correct to make it gender nuetral. It is a politically motivated registry that does not save lives. The registry was put in the Atlantic provinces to provide jobs and transfer money to the area. I am very happy the liberal machine is out of a job in Ottawa right now, but I am fearfull they will be back sooner than we think.
