These pictures were taken Satutday before the half inch of rain we got Saturday night. I'm sure you all know SE Montana is not always this green. But it sure is this year.

The biggest horse is our retiree, he is 27 years old and was a great horse. The smaller horse is a 4 year old that we have high hopes for. The horse in the back is 7 years old, not real cowy, but a nice horse. He never will be the horse Flinch, the 27 year old one was. Flinch is 16-1 and always weighed 1435 lbs. He was smooth as glass and really cowy. We can't seem to come up with another that compares to him.

Funny, I never noticed that roll of wire there before~better go pick it up!
Two more retirees. The bay was our daughers horse and the other is a horse too young to be retired, but he has a couple of problems that aren't going to go away.

You should get cheated out of spring you don't have winter.Spring is for those of us that earn it.

Well said Denny :!:

Wow, I've never seen pics of your area with so much green it them. Enjoy it!
The horses sure look great, looks like they wintered well.
Thanks for posting.

When I first saw your type of country I thought it pretty awesome! Thanks for sharing, FH, we're GREEN too!!! :D

katrina is on her way to seeeeee youuuuuuu, what a wonderful, nice lady!!!!!!! :D :D :D

Wonderful Pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I love all the green, in fact, I'm green with envy!!!!!!!!!!!!

Love the caballos, too, glad to see that you actually retire your old horses, instead of sending them you-know-where.

:cboy:

glad to see your green FH....your part of the country has been dry the last several years....I hope your starting to turn the other way now!

My folks say in north central SD that if they don't get rain soon there won't be any hay and barely any grass. The grass is just burning up and they are worried about fire hazard already.

We got another tease of rain last night....about 10 drops hit the ground. Suppose to be 100+ again today....

how fun.......blah

Actually TX Tibbs, every other year has been dry since we moved here in 1993.
And by that I mean it has been every EVEN numbered year, the odd numbered years are much better. But this is an EVEN year, so maybe things are looking up! I hope so!

Gosh, we might have to put up hay 2 years in a row!

Sorry about the lack of moisture where your folks are.
I don't wish a drought on anyone, EVER!!!

In the 60's and until 1977, I don't remember worrying about
droughts. 1977 in W. Montana was the worse year I can ever
remember, or perhaps the first year I can remember a drought.
Then it seemed to happen right along thoughout the 80's
and 90's. Not every year, but too many years.

And Ranchy, we do keep our old horses until they don't enjoy life
anymore. I just appreciate the fact that we can do that. Then we
have the vet come and put them down. Now, horses that aren't good
ones usually don't stick around long enough to get that old.

I agree with FH!!! Many of the life-long/oldtime ranchers here will tell you that compared to "how it used to be", even this years moisture is nothing compared to the way it was "back then"......Yes, I am grateful for what moisture we have received, but the year is still early and forecasts are calling for a dry summer...enjoy it while it lasts, I guess!! :?
