Saved this one for last. My nieghbor's truck completely buried.

Was that the passenger train that was stalled up there?

Quite a experience just to take the train from Vancouver to Toronto but then to spend 24 hours stuck in a snow drift will be something to tell the grandkids.

Holy cow that's a lot of snow. What was the temps like during this storm? Has there been any people stranded in vehicles or fatalaties that you have heard of?

That is the freight train that broke down causing the passenger train to get stranded because it couldn't get by.

I haven't really heard of any fatalities ( other than a few calves ). I did talk to quite a few people that slept in their vehicles though. I almost spent the night in the tractor working with a grader trying to free my dad and his tractor. He was stranded for 6 hrs and ended up walking home about a mile in the pitch dark.

It was a good thing the temperature warmed up before the storm. The night before was -30C but it was only about -15C during the storm. The winds were around 50 km/hr for two days with gusts to 80 km/hr.

Those are quite the pictures. Any words seem very inadequate in describing that blizzard. Thanks for the update, and hope things get back to normal soon. At least any drought in that area has been conquered.

We had that type of storm in late 78 or early 79. I was still in high school, and I think Dad had just bought his new 79 Chevy. It could have been in 77, though, 'cause we were using his old 70, 2 wheel drive. The county didn't have anything, for heavy equipment, other then an old #12 Cat grader, with a V plow on it. We were only snow bound a couple days, but there were a lot of trails going out through the pastures, where they couldn't get through with the grader. About a week later, the National Guard was out, with a blower, blowing out where the grader couldn't go.

That being said, I feel for you going through it, right now. In all honesty, I would rather fight the snow you have, then the fires we had last summer.
