Springing Spring

The calendar says that "spring is sprung",
I think that Calendar should be hung,
The bull last year thought "this was spring"
He broke some fence and did his thing
Now we wait and spring ain't here
We're pushing snow both far and near
The March wind blows, it started last May
We're burning through our stacks of hay
When will Spring spring, no one knows,
But it's sure too soon to put away the underhose
The crisp bite of frost, has lost its' charm
At least around this cattle farm
Earflaps down and collar up,
Our furry dog's a frozen pup.
The swath graze buried, corn is too
Friggin' lips are turning blue
Cursing like a sailor to the cadence of the sea,
The snow in waves above the knee.
Forking hay for horse and cow,
At least I'm a little fitter now.
We sit and wait, for summer grass
To calve our cows and save our ash.
And then alas, a real shock,
A cow in need of a cattle doc.
Snow's too deep for horse or trucks
Surprise March calving really...

after digging for six hours on sunday with a bobcat and a loader tractor we finally found our squeeze chute!. i can really relate to your cowboy poetry   :tiphat:

Very good!! Did the cow really need the doc?
I'm the doc round here I say,
I brought her in the horseback way
palping a cow in the frozen sun
one arm froze, the other numb
not a twin from that old hag,
just a messed up waterbag....

Yep...
All's well that ends well.
