The son just called from Billings and the hometown Glasgow Scotties are the 2007 Class B Montana State High School Wrestling Champs....
Said he couldn't remember the score- but we beat the second place team by 40 points... :D Ended up with 3 State Champs-- and several seconds...Two Scotties met against each other in the Championship match- now that has to be tough to have to beat your teammate...

The mighty badger wrestleing won districts and are sending all but four to state...... Look out Omaha Scutt!!!

OOPS Wrestling-- I guess I need to add that-- I have an excuse I was up an hour after my normal bedtime waiting for the results....

Thanks Katrina

Heres the article in the Billings Paper "Super Scotties"--ended up with 3 firsts, 3 seconds, 1 third place-- and a whole lot of kids contributing points...I'll have to run over and console the neighbor/partners kid I work with quite a bit...He won 1-lost 2 and was beat out but at least he contributed 2 points to the Championship effort...He's only a Jr. so has a year left- this is his second trip to State...I'll tell him I'll work him harder irrigating next summer to help him get in shape

We have an excellent coach that has put together quite a program...I was afraid when his kids graduated and went into college wrestling that he might follow them onto the college level- but I guess he likes it here...

The interesting thing about this tournament is that while wrestling is not thought of that much as a team sport- in building up there 40+ point team win each of the 15 kids that qualified for state scored points toward the team score- even if they did later lose out for individual honors  ...

So how can a team send more than one kid per weight. Do these "extras" earn team points or what. I know it is nice to get as many kids to wrestle at state but how do you take more than varsity kids. When you have a bunch of kids like this they all feed off of each other. What an awesome feeling.
How many from Montana have made it as a 'four timer'?

No, Passing thru. Only one kid to one weight class on varsity..
All other kids have to then wrestle jv and you can double up on the weight class on jv... Only thing is if you have two jv at one weight class one kid as to wrestle as unassisted..... Meaning as not a part of the team. Pretty lonesome thing....... Our jv in Valentine go to tournaments and duals without the varsity and we wrestle as a team and we wrestle other varsity and other jv teams..... Last year we filled all weight classes and had I think 3 unassisted kids in the heavier weights. We were an awesome hungry bunch wanting to kick some varsity butts......
This year is differant as we only have 10 kids on jv and some didn't even make weight...
The wrestleing parants pack coolers full of food for the wrestlers. Bagels, creme cheese, sandwiches, peanut butter, candy, yogurt, and lots of water. Each kid knows what he needs to eat to pick his energy for that wrestleing meet. IF the meet is more than one day a wrestler is given a leway of two pounds....
All kids are certified at a certian weight and must be at that weight even if they wrestle up a weight class. You can not wrestle under your certified weight class..
Hope this answers your questions..... Oh yeah in nebraska you weigh in at the tournament and in south Dakota you weigh in at home........

Remember the immortal words: GO VALENTINE BADGERS!!!!!!!!!!

In Colorado they only let the varsity wrestle at the regional tournys, so that means at state you only have varsity. At regular tournys through the year everyone gets a shot to wrestle. There are good points that only the Varsity wrestle at the state tourny. The thing I like about everyone wrestling is that it gives everyone a shot at the big one, as sometimes as shown here in MT the two best in the state are from the same town.
The other thing is it was mentioned 15 weights. Is there a 180 like Texas has?

I think Montana can now field a team of 15 --Next year it goes up to 16- then to 18 I think.. This way you can have more than 1 at a weight class...Not sure how they set up the weights for the regular matches-- but like you say it sure is good for the tournaments when you have 2 kids from the same town that are tops in the same weight...

All I know is that its a program being put in to stop these kids from having to do so much starving and dieting to make a lighter weight to make the team-- which I have always thought was very unhealthy for growing kids right during the time period they need all the nutrition they can get for growing bones, muscles and minds.....

I am glad they add more weights to get more kids involved, but I would think that there would be some slim pickins at some weights then.
You know I like all sports but something about wrestling is different.................can't explain it unless you are a wrestling parent.

Is anyone going to the NCAA DII national championships in Kearney in a few weeks?

Not that I'm aware of...... We have a kid who is wrestling for a college in North Platte, but don't know if he is wrestling varsity..... At homecoming he was behind a big stud, so wouldn't be wrestling...... I'll keep my ears open.......
