We got rid of most of the steer calves this week, so I thought I'd take this last opportunity toshow how they looked.
Pics from our place:
From the auction, a 4 hour drive away:
We had this pen of 59 head at 610 lbs, another of 42 at 550 lbs, and a few odds and ends between 650 lbs and 740 lbs. All in all the liner that hauled these calves mistakenly loaded too heavy. He put on nearly 69,000 lbs of calf instead of 63,000 lbs
All in all we had 118 calves at the sale with an average weight of 574 lbs, not too bad for mostly april calving.
Unfortunately the prices were dropping like a stone this week.... well, that was unfortunate for the sale barn because they guaranteed us a price. So when it's all said and done they will write us a cheque for the difference.... nearly 10 cents a pound
