Stoops telling ESPN the truth

After Oklahoma toppled Alabama in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Thursday, Sooners coach Bob Stoops said he wouldn't have to "dodge any more punches" for suggesting in the offseason that the SEC being the best league in college football was "propaganda."

Speaking on ESPN Radio's "The Herd with Colin Cowherd" on Friday, Stoops elaborated on those critical comments.

"When I made the comment, the bottom half of the SEC was like zero-and-36 against the top half of the SEC. You realize that? A year ago … nobody talks about that. My point was, don't say SEC like they're all doing that [beating everyone]. One or two or three top teams … sure, you give them the credit. Alabama … I've got the utmost respect for them. Are you kidding me? How could you not? But in the end, don't talk about the entire conference that way. It's just not true.

"Hey, I've got total respect for Alabama, but you can't deny what we did last night. Obviously, we can play with anybody, whether it's the SEC or anyone else. And to say we can't … well, Alabama's been rolling the SEC for the last three years and we didn't seem to be overwhelmed last night. I'm done with that talk."

Stoops also invoked Missouri and Texas A&M, which have enjoyed success since moving from the Big 12 to the SEC. The Aggies won 11 games last year and knocked off Alabama on the road. This year, Missouri went 11-2 and won the SEC Eastern Division.

"What about Texas A&M and Missouri?" Stoops said. "They've been in the Big 12 for 100 years. … They don't seem to be overwhelmed in that league. And they haven't been ruling the Big 12 the entire time that they were here, right?"

Between them, Texas A&M and Missouri won just one Big 12 championship during their tenure in the Big 12. Both schools each made two appearances in the Big 12 championship game, with A&M losing in 1997 before upsetting Kansas State in 1998, while Missouri lost the 2007 and 2008 title games, both to Stoops' Sooners.

The SEC has in the bowl games at present:

6 wins

2 losses

The absolute worst they can do is 6-4.

Not bad for a group of "propagandists".

Besides, it ain't such a big deal to beat Bama.

maybe so Mike, but the truth is starting to work free...SEC dominance is not totally backed up by performance... Stoops hit the nail on the head.

Wait until the final rankings come out. There should still be 4 SEC teams in top 10.

Stoops fails to mention that his own Big 12 as well as the Big 10 have many more losses than wins when you consider the bottom half of the conference. I think there is much more parity however from top to bottom in the SEC than other conferences.

The honest truth is Oklahoma had a great game. But if they had to play Bama, Auburn, Missouri, A&M and Florida every year they wouldn't win 1 time out of 5 against each team.

He also doesn't mention that Texas and Baylor beat his team like a step child in regular season play and you see what happened to both "post season". Stoops needs to remember that one game does not make a season. Why doesn't he schedule some of the top tier SEC teams?? I'm sure they would love to play the Sooners. By the same token, SEC has nothing to gain by scheduling Big 10 schools whatsoever.

aren't the big 12 and sec trying to establish a cross conference rivalry deal???

Sorry TexasBred I disagree with you!
A&M and Missouri Did not dominate us while you were in the Big 12 so why would you guys be competitive in the SEC and we wouldn't???
You also mention Texas and Baylor whipped us and they did but we also beat OSU on their field and OSU whipped Texas and Baylor!!! So there you go just one game?
Oh and we also beat Notre Dame on their field.....something Michigan State couldn't do.

Sorry, I added more to the post above.

Also TexasBred you mentioned why we don't schedule top tier SEC teams? We've had home and home series with Alabama and have Tennessee starting next year, I know they're not a top tier team right now though. I think we might have LSU for a series in the future also Ohio State if I'm not mistaken.

Who did you guys schedule for non conference games before you joined the SEC?

The way you and Missouri act now that you're in the SEC is why a lot of people hate the SEC and all their BS!!! You guys have forgotten where you came from. Now you guys have had a couple of good years with a very good coach in Sumlin and a great quarterback with Manziel.... let's see how you do when breaking in a new quarterback.

I didn't say they did dominate you. I said they "would" if you began playing them regularly now. You do remember the 2013 Cottonbowl?? That should be a pretty good indicator of how the Aggies would have done had hey stayed in the Big 12...Right?? OSU. Baylor, Texas, ND. Did any of them win their bowl game ??

I coudl care less why or if others hate the SEC. As for the QB's we have them lined up. Check them out. WE have an outstanding prospect that is a freshman now... #1 QB in nation enrolls at Aggieland tomorrow. Projected #1 for next year just won 5A state championship and has verbally committed to A&M. It doesn't matter where you come from....it does matter where you're going.

You are full of it!!!
Do you remember 77-0??? We didn't enjoy that game because you guys were down at that time and just like you guys caught us at a good time in the Cotton Bowl because we've been down the past two seasons.
You guys had a great quarterback and have had two really good seasons but if you think your program is that much greater than ours then your nuts! Your SEC Missouri team barely beat OSU and Chelf didn't have a good game so that was no ash whipping. Texas is down and you know it and had no chance with Oregon just like we didn't playing you guys in the Cotton Bowl. Baylor stunk it up but I guarantee they would have gave you or Missouri all you wanted. You guys are riding the coat tails of the top tier SEC teams and now acting like you have been as good as them for years.
How many NC games have you won.... how many have you played in?

Come on now, give it up. The SEC is just dominant. LSU killed Iowa by a touchdown, A&M just pummeled Duke      okay, wait I'll be serious....     nope can't do it. Remember how everyone in the SEC has such better talent... that others just can't compete... except Duke         , and let's see... yes, it was a ferocious Husker team with a freshman QB that handled Georgia- what where they picked early on? Ok State was just throttled by the eastern SEC champ.... surely that call on the pick 6 was correct? and it still didn't come down to the wire? oh and Vandy did beat Houston- that is worth writing home about, wait, almost forgot.... Miss State took out the killer owls of Rice and an 8-5 Old Miss got a 7-6 Ga Tech by 8.

So with it all boiled down- a number #8 went down to the wire with a very questionable call with a #13, and a #9 ranked SC beat a #19th ranked Wis by 10, and a #21 barely pulling it out against a #24 Duke  Otherwise, you have a bunch of unranked teams that you are prancing around with your chest out and sticking a bunch of turkey feathers in your hat. "Dominant" would mean that you thump quality opponents and pull upsets. Neither happened. You actually had 2 upsets and almost 4 when they were picked to win all of them. Again, you SEC guy's bs is like reading an op ed by the NY Times about Obama. No facts, just praise for something not worthy.

I bet the SEC doesn't win the title this year, or next- since they have to actually play someone for it.

Let's see.....OU beat ND, ND beat Michigan State, Michigan State beat Stanford, Stanford beat Oregon, Oregon beat Texas and Texas beat OU. Where does that put you?? And yes I remember 77-0. History. Let's stay in the present and look to the future. You can't live on what others did in the past. But since you try, I ask one more time. What about that Cotton Bowl 2013?? You had a good team that year. You stomped everyone except a close loss to ND. What happened???

OU, I am actually a Sooner fan and almost went to college there but top to bottom the Big 12 is not on a level with the SEC. I gave you credit for beating Bama and am glad you did. Now go out and do it consistently and whatever you do ALWAYS beat TU.

A win is a win is a win. Some aren't pretty but they still go in the win column.

You guys whipped us in the Cotton Bowl and had the better team...I knew it was coming as soon as we were chosen to play that game. We were not good on defense and I knew Manziel would light us up and he did! On offense Landry Jones was good throwing the ball but couldn't handle pressure from the rush and we couldn't run the ball. Also our lines on both sides of the ball were not good for what we're used to and our linebackers were not that good so that spells disaster when facing a good team on a roll in the bowl game. I'm going to be honest I didn't think we had a chance against Bama but our defense didn't give up and Knight had an unbelievable game so that kept us fired up to compete in the game. People don't realize how much the quarterback play influences his teams performance and we've had inconsistent QB play for most of this season. I think Manziel brought you guys to another level....he's special!

I read on a Sooner website from fans that watched the Texas state championship and how good that quarterback that's only a junior is the real deal. What are you hearing on Steven Parker from Jenks here in Tulsa? I guess it's between you guys and us for him?

I didn't think you would win either but I WAS rooting for you. OU do you remember Kevin Murray that played QB for A&M back in the 80's I think it was....that kid at Allen HS is his son. Haven't heard anything on Parker other than he is supposed to visit OU this month.
