Took a break in the hay season for a little jaunt to Crowsnest Mountain in southwest Alberta to celebrate my daughters 13th birthday. She chose to do a little mountaineering with some buddies as her party.

Quite a change from hay fields at the Hat, Elwapo. You weren't more than an hour from where I live, but I can't say as I've ever had any desire to go hike a mountain unless there is a fence over it that needs checking!

:agree:

That's great elwapo...wonderful thing you did for your daughter. Probably the best birthday gift she could hope for. Shortgrass nailed it...

Great photos too! Did the girl in the shorts get cold before it was all said and done?

Thanks for sharing!

Cheers---

TTB

Good for you, elwapo. Nothing is more important then spending time with family. The hay will still be there when you get home. I try telling my husband that, but it seems to fall on deaf ears. I'd love a few days away from here, and now after seeing your pictures, I want to take off for the mountains, too.

The dress changed dramatically with the altitude, and the shorts were covered fairly quickly. We were some of the first on the mountain for the year and the difficulty was higher than the last time my wife and I did it in 1999. Unfortunately only two of the girls made the summit and my wife stayed with the others until we came back down to their level. It was a success for all though, with all of us pushing as hard as we could. It took about nine hours to go up and back. One of the best days of my life. I hope the girls will take this experience with them. My quote for the day was " it's just like Disneyland ........except it's real"

Beautiful pics...makes one proud of our home doesn't it :)

That was way cool way for your daughter to spend her 13th Bday.

Mrs. Greg, you have a little ornery streak....

Seriously, didn't they discover more oil up there or something? Maybe my sources were mistaken.

Actually I wasn't being ornery just truthful,Alberta ,since our Oil boom is now little Newfoundland, and any number of Eastern provinces thrown in. Ft. McMurray, our oil sands city is jam packed FULL of Newfies, true story, the other Albertans will verify that for me. New foundland is called the Rock, not much of any kind of industry there other then fishing and thats seasonal.A little bit of Canadian info. for you Cal. :) I'm not sure if your talking finding oil in Newfoundland,if so its prob Off shore, that I don't know anything about, but if thats what your talking about,I for one will be one happy Albertan....I miss us

What a great birthday party idea- your girl will keep you young with her ideas of fun! And such scenery (almost) at your doorstep! It takes the breath away.

Awesome!!!! What a great day it looks like you all had.

And.........I"m soooooo thankful Lil Lilly has never asked to do anything like that.....LOL....My fear of heights would prevent me from climbin like that, she inherited the fear of heights too :D . I do love drivin up thru and around the mountains, gettin out and walkin around.....but that's a big huge rock climb from bottom to top!!!!!
