storm tracker---100 mph winds..?

on the east slope, we get Chinooks "snow eater" in Blackfeet
up on that res, world record temp change for 24hrs was set--101 F--if you got sherm ewings book, 'the range' there's pictures in it taken a day apart--taken off a sled of loose hay, Hereford cows with about a foot of snow on their backs, in snow up to their butts, waiting to be fed. the next day===the snow is gone, the cows are on the hills, the valley is fulla water.

the wind hits the rocky's--drops a lotta moisture on the west side---comes on over, we get 'compression heat', we're dryer, plum windy, radical changes, many times a lot warmer than them poor buggers farther east--they can look at same snow all winter---

Old Pulaski sure shook up a lot of folks when he put that on his weather forecast-- just saying it would happen east of the rockies...

Some folks around here were all shook about it- until the weather bureau put out a special notice that this meant just the east slopes.... Browning, Cut Bank, Choteau, Augusta, Livingston , Big Timber, etc where they get pretty fair winds quite regular... With temps predicted in the 40's and 50's it should eat away all the snow in most those areas...

We out on the flats are only going to get 20-35 mph winds and temps in the high 20's/low 30's (which will probably just turn the snow to ice :roll: )...
 
If it does turn your snow to ice be careful OT. Have enough people around here on crutches and such due to falls on the ice we had!

Did you see the power outage forecast?

Yeah the warm, then rain, then 30 Below already have things pretty slicked up.... I've been wearing my studded sorels for last couple of weeks...

I haven't heard of any power outage forecast for around here... BIL who works for WAPA, was here tonight and never mentioned anything- so maybe that's for the grid west of Havre...
 
I'm pretty sure that we all have expierenced these type of winds before but we all were much younger.Iplowed snow for oil companies in the 50s and survived[cat with comfort cover] but do remember what cold was-is and sure hope people pay attention and use some god given comman sense. Was in the local cafe-- coffee shop a few days ago, young man-kid came in dressed in less clothes than most people wear to bed and I had to wonder what would he do if vehicle stalled or some type of accident?? Oh maybe they are a lot tougher than we were!!Have a 14 year old grandson out a lot and a young hutterite feeding alot of cattle and sure they no what warm clothing is.
 
Most of them expect to be pulled out within a couple minutes bllcattle.

I learned to run dozers outside of Butte, no cab. Had to stop a couple times and wrap my hands around the exhaust pipe to get feeling back in them. Thank goodness for long johns and insulated bids! Also insulated shirt.


Yeah I remember some pretty nasty winds when I was a kid.

I think the first dozer I spent much time on was an old gas JD 450 in about 1963 or 1964 that did not even have anything over your head - - - I now know how dangerous that was but at the time never thought about it. I was so proud when my stepdad bought it - - - I could do anything!!!

And cold I used to plow about 10 miles of road with it for the Morgan county hi way dept - - - just dress warm and go for it.

I never had a dozer with a cab until about 2003 when I bought the D37P5 Komatsu with a metal ROPS enclosure that can be installed in about 30 minutes or less and removed in about half that time. I have a large heater that blows right on the operators feet.

I went in with my cousin this spring and we bought a JD 650J with heat and air - - - so quiet at full throttle you almost think you are in a Lincoln Town Car. I do not let it get in the trees - - - if we are going to do fence rows or land clearing I do not want it scratched up! As I get older I like heat and air more every year!

My son still has a JD 650G with open ROPS and we have a Case 650G with open ROPS as well - - - this time of year they just stay in the barn!
 
Just got hit with a pretty hard gust here. News has reported semis are blown over outside of Browning. Hope littlejoe is ok.

George I did not have closed cab but a roll over cage.
 
Was at the basketball games much of the afternoon...Walked out about 6PM- temp was 42 and it was raining, wind blowing about 30-40- gusting to above 60 in some areas.... Any area where there is still snow (sidewalks/roads) are a skating rink...
Temp predicted to drop to 20 tonight with snow later... Could be very interesting trying to get around tomorrow morning! :roll: :shock:
 
I was just reading this thread here at 8PM. A big wind just rolled through the yard. Figured I had better put the dogs up and batten down the hatches and there was hardly any wind. :?
Sure mild out tonight.
 
We had 3 inches of new snow plus all the old snow under it on Thursday night/Friday morning. Today it was 40+F and a 40mph wind all day. Snow is almost gone. Really gusting tonight and supposed to be blustery tomorrow as well.

Nice Westerly breeze came up today and we went from -20 to +4C in about an hour. Quite nice, and moderates the transition from the Cuban weather we were enjoying up until yesterday :D
