TXTibbs- I'll bet she has some stories to tell if she is....My mother told me about the riding for mount money--she used to travel with her brothers when they were rodeoing and she would take out bucking horses or mules for mount money-- said it was one of the only things they paid the gals more than the guys to do :) .....
 
here is another bit on Mattie Goff Newcombe.....sad to see another one of the true pioneers pass on. :( She died about a week ago at the age of 98 and her funeral was August 1st.

It said she was never injured during a rodeo performance. That is amazing!
 
Mattie's ranch is just east of me. I've helped to put her and Maynard's brand on a lot of their calves over the past 25 years. Remind me of her when we get to the get together and I'll tell you some stories about her family and that area. Quite the history!

This lady is still alive and lives in Belle Fourche and drives and getsaround pretty good. Pretty sharp yet also. Info from my neighbor who kind'a related a long way around.
