Buddie got a load of 7 weigh heifers in. They're suicidal and keep slamming their head into the steel. :lol:

As a saler breeder I've heard that the type cattle breeds that do this are very unprofitable and the feedlots don't want them. :lol: My salers weren't ever bad to handle but I gather that some were. Anyway , these aren't saler heifers but I have seen several groups of nasty disposition cattle from this breed over the last couple years. :lol:

RR, we've had Salers, what nasty dispositioned cows! I've also heard there are Salers with good dispositions. EXT, or Lucy's Boy, or Awesome (they should have an EPD for bad dispositions) some of their progeny were dark cutters. Hope the suicidal cattle settle down :!:

I have heard of Universities starting an EPD for disposition but
the data collectors never returned with there findings. :lol:

When you go thru these Docility EPD's-- it sure makes you wonder about how screwy a couple of these bulls are like- Schoennes Contact 06 rated -31, and H A Ambush rated -34--- when EXT is -9, Lucy's Boy is -5, California Traveler is -2, and Danny Boy is rated +4 :roll: :???:

RR, the suicidal part wouldn't bother me as much as the murderous part when a guy goes in the pen with them to AI! :twisted: :roll: :wink: :!:

Sometimes cattle can go nuts when penned or on the trailer the first time.
Several years ago a nieghbor had an Angus hiefer kill herself trying to get out of a trailer.

...for 5 bucks per head. They aren't my heifers FH. He has good steel and good cowboys. If they bring them to me, I'll stick an arm in them.

Was at a cattleman's supper a few years ago; one of the couples at our table run a feedllot and wanted to know if anyone present raised Limo's or Salers. When asked why he said he was trying to pass the message that he wouldn't buy or feed any of them! He stated that cattle that were bouncing off the back fence every time a feed truck went by just weren't too feed efficient and that injuries to cattle & help were just too commonplace whenever cattle of poor temperment were handled.

We put our heifers in a feedlot one year and they were penned with some flighty red cattle. (Not saying this as anything agains red cattle per sei; everyone here should know by now that I really like red cattle). It was interesting to observe what happened when you walked by or in the pen. Those cattle took off, with their tails over their backs, while ours merely eyed you and moved out of the way. I want to note here that we never walked through our cattle much at the ranch, it was usually horseback, but they were always handled in a gentle, quiet way.

Sorry RR.......maybe I shouldn't have named the breeds........was just trying to point out a feedlotters concerns with temperment. I've worked with a lot of different cattle over the years and HAVE seen the best & worst of a lot of breeds. Docility as a trait is underrated by far too many people........until the wrecks happen :shock:
