Is anybody else going to record or watch the sale tomorrow? I'm curious as to what these females are going to bring. All classes I imagine will be crazy high.

Aren't blowing the roof off of it so far. 2800 to lead off and down to 2300 for a low so far

Better have a pocket full of cash if you want to buy cows. My ag lender set a max they will borrow and it's a bit shy of kill price. So on those $2800 heifers you would need $1500 cash and he'll borrow the difference. $7 Corn has taught them what goes up will come down and in a hurry at times.

I heard that there was red angus heifers ai bred to Hereford that sold at Salina on Tuesday. A buddy told me they brought 3200-3500.

Any banker who wasn't smart enough to understand that $7 corn wouldn't last forever probably deserves to be in a bit of a pinch on their ability to lend. With 850# steers bringing 2.25 on average around our area it doesn't take much figuring on how to make a $2500 heifer work. Hedge the back side to prevent downside risk and she turns into a fairly cheap 3 year old.

Will be really interesting to me to see what bred cow and bull prices are like this spring. LOT of old bulls going to town right now in our area

I'm sure it'll piss somebody off, but I have no sympathy for any farmer who is in a financial bind nor any bank in a bind over lending to corn farmers.

Instead of pocketing their windfall profits most of the farmers overpaid for land and equipment. That's their fault. It is also the banks fault for lending on land and equipment priced like corn was going to be 5-7 forever.

Also there is a lesson here to cattleman. I hope most are paying attention.

yesterday day at ft. pierre some 527lb strs bring 3.30 a lb.
that would cheapen them 2800 dollar hfrs
we got about the same spread on cows and calves as
when we sold 5 hundred dollar calves and bought 11 to 12 hundred dollar cows

I agree. Also the price for cull cows also helps quite a bit. Figure that in with the price of that first calf and $2800 isn't that much at all.
