We really aren't due to start calving til March 5. Don't know where she found a bull, but she did. Wasn't totally a surprise, we were watching her. DH checked at 7am and no calf, although he agreed with my assessment from last night, that she had bagged up more. Checked her at 10:30am and there was a baby (maybe another one, in a bit??)

I took some photos of her 2 days ago, she really didn't change much from how she looked in these photos til she calved, other than bagging up a bit more. No tight udder here. She is a 5 year old cow that we raised.

When we worked cattle in October the vet said my favorite cow ( K16 )was due in January ( all the rest are late March to April) and I said no way. I had a great little hiefer to greet me the 16th of January - - - I guess the bull must have taken a trip I was not aware of.

I will get a picture and post it.

I love good surprises.

At least you were prepared for the surprise :D .

I turned bulls out May 16, and have had three calves, beginning on the 5th of this month, which is little earlier than I expected :D . Maybe it's the year?

Good luck with the rest of them!

This is cow K16 born in 2000 and I have five cows in the herd from her so far and I'll probably keep this one back as well.

This is a 1993 model that has produced every year. Any cow that does not calve is sold and if they calve later than June 1st they are sold when the calf is weaned.

Yep, it was a very nice surprise!

Burnt, that was the easiest way to bed 3 cows and not have the straw just get covered over with snow. They've had that bale in there for about 3 weeks now.
