Are those tundra swans?

They are Trumpeter Swans. I remember back in 1970 there were only 46 total that were known to exist. At that time, about half of them were in the Yellowstone/Jackson Hole area, and the rest of them were here in the northern Sandhills. I considered myself a pretty lucky feller, because I got to see them while working as a dude wrangler that summer in Jackson Hole, and then more of them greeted me again when I got back home. :-)

Looks like you have a nice population of them now Soapweed.

Which brings a question to mind, I know you have a lake that you call Swan lake. Has it always been named that? Or is it somethin that you've recently (since the 70s) started callin it?

Actually, our lake is called Goose Lake, and it has always been called that as far back as I can remember. We also have a Wilson Lake, named after the original homesteaders who settled there back in the late 1800's. Another lake is SB Lake, named after the original homesteader's brand. Clubhouse Lake was named because there used to be a clubhouse there where hunters congregated.

I got up at 6am this mornin with plans of buildin fence next door with the relatives that have the adjoinin property. We had heavy fog, I made coffee, sat on the porch for a few minutes contemplatin grabbin my camera to go snap a few photos in the fog......got sidetracked puttin up clean dishes, and by the time I got that done, the fog had lifted. So far still no one stirrin down the road. I guess they don't get up with the chickens to build fence LOL

Soap whatever happened to your hand who always wore the starched white shirts everyday?

With the Kosmo Kid getting married and moving back to the ranch, there was not enough housing for everyone. Saddletramp went to work on a neighboring ranch on September 1st a year ago.

10/25/09?????

Soaps rushing it a month  - except I can't talk-- as I did the same thing the other day when I was filling out the flu shot form  ....

Beautiful photos. Thanks!

I don't recall ever seeing a Trumpeter Swan though I'm pretty sure it was a Whistling Swan that I saw many years ago on a S. Louisiana goose hunt.

Beautiful birds indeed.

I haven't seen a Sandhill Crane heading south yet this fall- which is usually the first sign around here of bad weather coming.....

Maybe the nasty Canadian weather thats supposed to move in tonight might wake them up...Even if they're going over in the middle of the night I know it- as the dogs starting howling at their sqawking....

Awesome shots

Just one question...............uuummmmm is it foggy because its the future?
I thought yall might have snow the end of October I guess you will only have fog
