Some pictures of the replacement heifers that will be AIed to Cole Creek Black Cedar 46P this spring.

Been freeze branding along time. It's been clipped and sprayed with alcohol.

Here's the clippers

Thanks for the nice comments on the heifers. I hope I can get most of them settled when it comes time to AI. How do a lot of you folks sync your cattle for AI ing? I struggle with what way works the best, I've done about all of the them, but I hate using a lot of drugs. It seem with me anyway that if I don't settle them on the first cycle they usually miss 1 or 2 more before they settle. I thought this year I may just watch them day and night and AI as they come in naturally. Any thoughts?

To go along with this. I have read about people raving that using the mutil min vitamin thing. Not for sure the exact name. But is supposed to really help with conception rates. Anybody try it?

I've went to one round of lute breed what cycles for 4 days and put the bull with the rest. With lute instead of doing 60 head I lute 120 to 150 then hope to breed 50% in the time allowed but were doing all ages of females with this program. Cydrs seam to work real well on heifers but there are alot of drugs with that program.Cows I've had as bad as 40% conception and it backed the rest up 2 heat cycles.

I've heard flax seed, meal, oil whatever it comes in helps also.I think cattle on grass cycleing works best thats why I went to calveing later too much Bullfrog Alfalfa in my cows diet.

I use as little drugs as possible. I like mga fed as meal with a little soymeal added. I like to keep feeding it thru ai'ng, w/o the mga. Kinda a hassle, but a good chance to make your heifers gentle for life, really shines them up and kinda flushes them. I like to ai on heat detection. But takes more time. Depends on how you're set up.

I did try the multi min for the first time yesterday. So we will see if it increases conception rates. I'm set up pretty good to watch and breed them as they naturally come in to heat. So I guess I'll give it a try. My Black Cedar semen came yesterday so I'll be ready come the middle of March.

it is a good product and I use it. I don't AI, but...

My thought is, "Going into breeding, do you suspect your cows lacking any of the minerals the Multimin is providing?" If so, it will likely help tons. Another thing if it is Yes, maybe look at other ways to bring these levels up. Like a good loose mineral program. I say that realizing there are times of the year it is hard to get it out.

I did AI in years past and my guys had high conception rates. Maybe the settle rate is something other than the drugs? Could it be they aren't cycling which goes back to Nutrition. Maybe they are cycling and not settling which may be a handling/stress factor and you need to look at the design of the AI system,

Just some thoughts,

Pat

Interesting to see the multimin product brought up as I received a flyer in the mail and read it with interest tried calling the number, left a message then called my vet for his thoughts on the product. He said he has sseveral clients using it. I am going to try it this year on new born and branding time shots, and cows in the fall. I would be interested in others thoughts that are using the product.

Here we heat detect and AI about 10 days then lut what is left. Real consistent and good to work with the heifers a little. We use the estrotect patches and they save a lot of time. If we get some bad weather during calving they are not all calving at once. This is not a system for everyone but works well here.

Nice heifers in the pictures.
