Help Support Ranchers.net:

OUCH !!!!!!
According to a report the agency gave this week at the U.S. Animal Health Association annual conference, USDA researchers calculate the highest potential number of cattle infected with BSE would be a high of "three in 10 million," said Aaron Scott of the National Surveillance Unit.
100 =30

USDA used four different formulas to calculate the prevalence of BSE in the U.S. adult-population herd cattle. Each calculation came up with a different range that collectively projects the potential of 15 diseased animals out of an adult cattle herd of more than 45 million head.

The World Organization for Animal Health, known by the French acronym OIE, created a scoring system last May for countries having positive cases of bovine spongiform encephalopathy. A minimum 300,000-point score reflected a "controlled risk" suitable for safe imports. Based on its sampling data, the U.S. has a score of 2.6 million, more than eight times higher than the OIE standard.
