I guess what they say about Texas weather always comes true. If you don't like they weather wait 5 minutes and it will change. So far this year we have seen drought, flood, very high temperature, and now maybe snow. :???:

Issued by The National Weather Service
Houston/Galveston, TX
6:30 am CST, Wed., Dec. 2, 2009

... POSSIBLE WINTER WEATHER EVENT ON FRIDAY FOR SOUTHEAST TEXAS...

AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE IS EXPECTED TO MOVE ACROSS TEXAS AND INTO SOUTHEAST TEXAS ON FRIDAY. MUCH COLDER AIR WILL ALSO FILTER INTO THE REGION DURING THE DAY AS THIS DISTURBANCE MOVES OVER THE AREA. STRONG LIFT ASSOCIATED WITH THE DISTURBANCE WILL COMBINE WITH MOISTURE AND COLD AIR SO THAT WINTER PRECIPITATION WILL BE POSSIBLE ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXAS BEGINNING EARLY FRIDAY MORNING. PRECIPITATION WILL POSSIBLY START AS RAIN BUT THEN CHANGE TO SNOW DURING THE DAY AS TEMPERATURES FALL.

THIS SCENARIO REMAINS RATHER UNCERTAIN SINCE THERE IS STILL SOME QUESTION AS TO WHEN THE DISTURBANCE MOVES OVER THE REGION AND HOW MUCH MOISTURE WILL BE AVAILABLE FOR WINTRY PRECIPITATION. FORECASTERS WILL CONTINUE TO MONITOR FORECAST DATA AND MAKE CHANGES AS NECESSARY. RESIDENTS OF SOUTHEAST TEXAS ARE ENCOURAGED TO MONITOR THE FORECAST AND LOOK FOR UPDATES CONCERNING THE WINTER WEATHER THREAT.

... Winter Storm Warning in effect from 10 am this morning to 8 PM
CST this evening...

The National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston has issued a
Winter Storm Warning for snow... which is in effect from 10 am
this morning to 8 PM CST this evening. The Winter Weather Advisory
is no longer in effect.

Rain this morning will be changing over to snow by late morning.
During the afternoon hours expect surface temperatures to fall to
near the freezing mark. As the upper level low pressure system
nears the area periods of moderate snow will be embedded in the
widespread light snow. The snow will continue into the early
evening before ending. Total snow accumulations of 0.5 to 1.0
inch can be expected... with isolated totals of 2 to 4 inches.
Some roadways... especially on bridges and overpasses are likely
to become icy late Friday afternoon and especially during the
evening as temperatures fall well below freezing.

In addition to the snow... the combination of gusty winds and cold
temperatures will result in wind chill readings in the 20s Friday
afternoon and evening.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow means winter weather
conditions are expected or occurring. Significant amounts of snow
are forecast that may make travel dangerous. If you must
travel... take plenty of warm clothes... keep a flashlight handy
and be sure to take a cell phone with you should you slide off the
Road due to the hazardous Road conditions that are expected late
this afternoon and evening.

I know for those of you that aren't used to it, the snow won't be nice but a winter storm warning with "accumulations" of .5 to 4 inches of snow did give me a chuckle. :D

Hope ya'all weather the storm.

Looks like it may pop up above freezing here today. That's not good for anybody :(

I was thinking the same thing, then again, i'm sure Texans aren't equipped to handle winter like us Northerners.

Any chance of the Texas football team getting stranded in Austin and not able to make it to Dallas? Just kidding :D

Both of you are right. Down here in south central Texas they closed most of the schools. It IS pretty funny given that you guys up north deal with snow every day during the winter. One snow flake down here and every thing shuts down. I think though, that the main worry is icing on the roads - mainly the over passes and bridges. Any snow fall will be a major treat for the kiddos!!
