They're getting quite tame now :shock: :roll:
They're always here everyday for their free meals morning and evening :roll: . They do wander down to the neighbours for desert where the nibble on his raspberry bushes... heck, why should I be the only one keeping them in feed? :lol:

I feel bad that the poor old girl has a bad hind leg :(
It looks very broken, but she's still getting around on it.

Naw, I don't think I'd preg check her, but I bet I can get closer to her than quite a few cattle ranchers can get to some of their cattle. :lol:
 
Be careful Jigger. A friend on mine west of us on the Missouri River has a female moose that has been chsing his bird hunters all hunting season. No one has seen a calf with her, but then again they weren't sticking around too long.

I know, I don't get that close and I keep an eye on her when I'm out there.
 
I understand what a problem these critters can be to a baleyard...but from a Sandhillers perpesctive..it's really cool to see a Moose that close! What do you guess happened to her leg?

Its really hard to say what happened to her. Could have been clipped by a vehicle, or caught up in a fence, shot or ??

That is sooo true!!!




Around here, before I built another hay barn we used to stack out and tarp hay like that. We'd have deer by the truckload.

We started making a small stack , off up in the woods and tarp it and everything tying to make it look as ' deer proof 'as possible. :wink: Of course, they went right for it!! It became 'their' own little stash and then they left the big stacks alone.


Now they just walk into the barn and eat and then lay down for a nap!! :roll: :roll: :roll:

Yes he would make good eating, but with the amount of bulls thats been harvested from here I'd rather see him stay. I think they really need to close the season here for a few years. The winter of 06/07 wiped out a lot of moose and deer.

That leg is real nasty. I'll see if I can get clearer pics of it this morning.
As much as Leanin' H doesn't want to see her culled :wink: , eventually she likely will be, either by wolves or ???
As long as she stays in my yard she's safe.
