had 5 balds in the 1st calf heifer pasture this am
the little girls shure came to there milk (so to speak)
they be all growed up
one blast from a 12 guage and the eagles
were on there way however
 
I used to worry about the eagles, especially when we had sick calves out there, but I've never had any problems yet. There's quite often 8 or 10 of them hanging out in the calving pen. It appears all they want is afterbirth.
Now ravens and magpies are another story, as they will not hesitate to pick apart a calf that is down but not dead.
 
In the 50's the Calif. Cattlemen Assoc. here paid 10 cent for Black Billed Maggpies - Helped pay for 22 shells - I shot 23 straight in the head and left the beak hanging...

weather they are eatin them or just
hangin around like the buzzards they are
