the fainting pony

[balestabber]

stand'n at a kitchen window---a bake'n some rolls
watch'n the mares---with their new born foals
when one in particular---caught my eye
he hit the ground---like he was go'n to die

he would play and buck---do a 100 yard dash
then fall over like dead---and do his own crash
for up to five minutes---still as a saint
he lay on the ground---asleep and was faint

soon back to life---up wobbly and weak
he'd soon have his bearings---and be back at his peak
i called the vet---a cry'n a song
come look at my colt---and tell me whats wrong

the vet did't know ---so i called two or three
to get their opinions---of what they could see
when after some thought---they came to a conclusion
of the colt that i had---and what was causing his illusions

he was born with the "term"---he had a hole in his heart
couldn't get enough oxygen---the gas that made him start
he would soon run out of it---and faint to the ground
with a few minutes of recovery---was back to being sound

i know this story---sounds a bit phony
but i remember the day---of the fainting pony
out on the ranch---the memory now history
as i recall the time---of another ranch mystery!!

yes,i am richard---and have been writing poetry since the early nintys.have just now started sharing them as i discovered ranchers.net-and maybe met some new friends.question?i have alot of spiritual stuff also but dont know whether i should share it in the cowboy poetry section?

I have read all that you have posted too, and enjoy them...Are most of them from personal experience or are you one of those creative types that can think of poems on the spot? No matter...I like em!

all of my stories are personal experiences,my father did lose his arm in a picker when i was 2 yrs old.so i started farming at a very young age.i was at the salebarn during the lighting storm and seen the lighting strike near the cowboy,and the cattle fall.. and so on.i do occasionally share a poem at church with a testimony and a very short devotion.these can be about different subjects of my past from divorce,bankruptcy in the eighties,to trouble with the law.and farming and ranching of corse.
