I havn't posted a poem for a while so thought I'd throw one at ya. Kind of a spring time thing and I think most of us can relate.

THE FEELING
by
Marty Blocker @ 2007

There's a feeling you get down deep in your gut
when green grass pokes through the snow
and that crick that's been dry most all of last year
suddenly starts to flow.

When the curlews come back and you can hear
the haunting call of the cranes.
It appears that your soul has healed
and once more you've weathered the strain.

Instinct will tell you that winter has waned
and most of the worst is passed.
If not a late frost and rains come on time,
this year the hay pile might last.

But there's that feeling you get when you've done your best
and that calf just won't take a breath.
No matter how hard you fight, you can not tear,
that thin curtain of death.

So you don't dwell on the hell you've been through
when luck's kicked in your staves.
Emotions aren't wasted on what can't be undone,
instead focused on ones you can save.

There's a feeling you get down deep in the heart
when guidance is what you seek'
And all you can hear is your stirrups sway
to the sound of your saddle's squeak.

But if you listen real close, there on the wind
that whispers across the sand.
You catch the murmur of the ancients
telling you what they can.

Then there's a feeling you have when you've made a ride
on that big colt, quick and stout.
You know he has the heart and mind
and he's gonna make you a mount.

Or on a big circle and your horse works just right
and doesn't seem to tire.
Or your loop always hits and your dallies stack straight
as you drag them up to the fire.

Then there's that feeling you have down in your belly
that some how gives you the stay.
To get up one more time then you've been bucked down
and bail back into the fray.

To rear on your hind legs to scratch your mark high
and give this old world, a leer.
Then down deep inside, you know the feeling,
you'll make it another year.

Me, Jingles Jr and Mrs Jingles Jr all approve, heartily.

Another good one, pard. :)

Funny, I don't think you can write them that good unless you been there and done it. :)

Don't think you can really appreciate 'em either unless you've been there.

Nice poem, sir.
