Here is an article about the last calvary charge. I was telling Soapweed about it this weekend, and he suggested I share it on here with everybody. I had to agree with him as it is a neat article, and too good to keep to myself. It also goes along with Shortgrasses devotion and the Memorial holiday. I hope you enjoy it.

That is a very nice tribute to Lieutenant-Colonel Edwin Ramsey. Thanks for posting, Strong. Now that you are registered, you can be an active participant and get in trouble like the rest of us.

Interesting. In the "Land of the Not Quite Right", aka the Philippines, the ones who remember and revere "Joe", MacArthur, Ramsey, and the rest are a fast dying minority.

On my wedding day, I was honored to spend 3 hours before the ceremony with some old gentlemen who helped and fought alongside our forces during WWII. The stories they relayed to me about the Japanese atrocities would curl your toenails.

They, too, were the "Greatest Generation" in the Philippines.

My neighbour to the north fought in the Philippines. He was a man hard on whiskey and battled malaria for a good portion of his life. Sometimes when he had enough under his belt he would talk about some of his experiences there. Those stories give me nightmares so I can't imagine how he coped (even considering the whiskey)
Those were tough times and those men deserve all of our respect.
