We moved the cows on the 6th, just a short move across the road.

They had the creek and one spring, just had to walk a long ways to get to them.

Tues of this week we packed mineral in to the BLM permit where we planned to take them the next day. When we looked at the feed we decided to change our minds (after putting the mineral out of course :?) and put them on a deeded piece next to the BLM as it has much better feed. We'll put the cows on the BLM after we ship the calves. Also we can get to the deeded piece with a pickup to put protein out and can't on the BLM.

Packed two colts

So many elk this year it looked like there'd been cows on the BLM all summer.

If it all looked like this we'd be in good shape

Nice pictures, Nicky. It looks to be about the same degree of dryness in your area as it is here in the Sandhills. Your cattle drive depicts much dust, as has been the case every time we've moved cattle here for several months. Someday it will rain again. :) Your cattle look great and are sure in bloomy condition, regardless of the lack of moisture.

Things look pretty good for the amount of moisture ya havent got! We start chasing them off the ridges tomorrow. How much is a nonresident elk tag? :D

About a month's worth of colt riding :)

Good news today Nicky, after 83 of the last 84 days with no moisture we got almost 1/2 " of rain, were sending it your way. Hope you get some :D

Day 110 without rain, did get a slight sprinkle last night. Could sure use more!!!!!! Glad you got some rain Eastwind.

despite the the dry conditions, your cattle sure look good. dust in the air is a common site here aswell. we can't seem to get it to rain, so a foot of snow would sure be welcomed.

who is they - (drained reservoir)?

thats a pretty neat picture of mike - looks like the marlboro man or something.

a whiteface makes a whole lot of difference in tougher years. sure looks like they didn't miss a beat on those calves.

It's an irrigation reservoir, so 'they' are the Lower Powder Irrigation district. Don't care that they drain it, just wish they'd let a bigger flow out in the fall/winter. It's not that big of a reservoir so it fills no matter the year. When it gets cold the river will freeze pretty much solid and that is often why we have to bring the cows home.

it is so interesting to see how everyone does things in the pictures on here...but Nicky, your place is the one that I want to visit the most....absolute rugged beauty !!
