The least liked job on your place is ?

Hmmmm my least favorite thing to do on the ranch..............anything greasy dealing with a tractor on a hotter then heck day when you want to get done to go do something fun!

Oh and dealing with hot stinky dead critters.

Fencing to would be in the top 3.

I'd have to say fencing is one of my favorite things. I've always liked the more physical stuff though, just me. For what I don't like, anything to do with machinery is on the top of the list. It's always burning in the back of my mind while I'm skinnin' my knuckles, that I'm puttin' more money into something that just keeps dropping in value. Luckily the only thing we have that does it is a $500 one ton with the bale handler on it.

Well then Pure Country...you live close enough, can you come shovel out our driveway :D Gregs the same as you though, really doesn't like tractor work of ANY kind!

I hear you've got a little more snow over there than we do. It drifted pretty good around here yesterday with that darn SE wind hummin' along, but it's still not nearly as bad as some winters. 'Course, we're not through it all yet. Grandad's just started calvin' and I'm doin the night checkin', so it's bound to stay cold now for a while.

My Dad's the same way. he says there's not much that can beat a good day of fencing. And the results are so immediate and gratifying. It's easy to see you've done a good job by the tightness of the wires, the straight run of the fenceline, the even ness of the post tops....

I think he's nuts.

Pure Country,We had a really bad storm Sat. then the wind yesterday.By the way, Greg and I were really happy Hardisty changed the Rodeo weekend,Hopefully that will work in you guys favor and get more people that were going to Ponoka.

I'm glad to hear it, thanks alot. We've talked about changing the date for 4 years now, and this year put us in a spot where we had to change it. To stay on the usual weekend, we would have had to give up the chuckwagons and chariots, which are a tradition for our rodeo. We also could not have gone on one of the other weekends, or we would have lost our dual sanctioning with Foothills. It's a real juggling act sometimes trying to pull it off, but when you get down in the chutes Saturday morning for the slack perf, the butterflies go away and ya' just know you've pulled it off for another year. When the dirt starts flyin', it's a little late to worry anyway!

When I was a kid, I didn't care much for fencing. One day, it hit me that if I was going to ranch, fencing would certainly be a job that needed to be done on a regular basis. I decided then and there to take a little pride in doing it right, and then the job became much more fun. It is hard work, but if a person can look back at a mile of new fence that is straight as a string, with good looking box corners and tight, evenly measured gates, there is a great feeling of satisfaction in a job well done.

Thanks, but I'll probably have to pass. It would be too hard to get back to my own little bed each night.

I've just been readin a book that to deal with a death smell they usta use bandana's with vinegar on em. Don't know how well it works...
I've heard, that in a pinch, you can put some gasoline on a rag and tie it around your head, under you nose, and then you won't smell the stink so bad also

dont be givin liyyl ideas like this :!: she will lite up one of her cnacer sticks and go up like a roman candle!  :o[/quote]

Wrong company Shoe :P

and on second thought my least favorite chore (if ya wanna call it that) is all the daggum hay string that's buried on our place. Seems the previous relative that ran cows on this place didnt bleave in removin hay string offa round bales......and it just drives me nuts to see a piece of string stickin up outta the ground. Grab hold of it, and miles and miles of the stuff is buried, pull yank, grumble, yank, tie it to the bumper of the toyota and drag it out.....I've been doin this for 5 or 6 years on this place, and still findin strings....but I think I've finally got the upper hand on it.
