I figured I better confess, before the local gossips start telling stories.
My ranch pickup is a piece of JUNK Chevy, that likes to set fires!! And on a HOT breezy day like today, I set a pretty good fire. Thankfully, the local volunteers were there within 10 minutes, but if you are the only one there, one the end of a shovel, it seemed like an eternity!! I figure it only burned about 50 acres, but....

I HATE CHEVY anythings!!

I couldn't help but give WP a bad time this afternoon. Of course there wasn't a damn thing he could have done about it. Sometimes it just happens. I think he eased the firefighting itch of some of the locals for a few days. I couldn't believe the red Ford came easing in as we were leaving, it must be more fragile than a fire truck.

I did that Friday with the round baler. I was tying a bale and looked back and saw some hay on fire in the baler. I kicked the bale out and grabbed the extinguisher off the baler and put out the burning hay in the baler. Then I called for help and had to wait until I had a big enough black spot to pull the equipment into before I could go for my fire truck. I called dispatch back and had the sheriff pick it up on the way by. It only burned 3.6 acres and 6 bales so I was pretty lucky since it took almost 30 minutes for help to arrive. The money spent on the water extinguisher for the baler was money well spent, I would have lost the baler too without it. It was the first baler fire in the county this year.

I helped fight one yesterday that burned 240 acres started by a ranchers pickup putting out salt and mineral. I would have burned more but a road stopped it on one side.

Shovel? Not enough coffee yesterday morning? You're supposed to pee on the fire.

As they say over here in da hood; Don't hate the playa (gm), hate the game (drought). :P

Glad no one was hurt.

I found out that dry peat & cow manure on a atv muffler makes a good match also

A few years ago when we had a dry summer we were seeding down a peat meadow my brother drop his cigerette and it started a peat fire.I had water in the tractor and put it out but everyone around here knows it's hard to put out a "Peet Fire" local humor.

Many years ago we were having a BBQ at a friends house in Genoa Nevada when the "FIRE BELL across the street started to sound - RING - - Ring - Ring -Ring Ring Ring - - - -
Our friend was on the "Volunteer Fire Department" - so we all jumped on the OLD - OLD Fire Truck and Off we went - the FRIE was at "UNCLE HARVEY'S" Feed Lot (Harvey's Casino in Tahoe) (The shirt was on FIRE)
Gardenville Paper had Photo's and Story about the "shirt FIRE IN GENOA".

Uncle Harvey had us to dinner at the Casino

Buddy in OK called this morn and said a guy had a bearing that went out roading a rake. They kept on dragging it and wound up and set 21 different grass fires. My buddy was lucky as the 160 ac across from his place burnt but he didn't lose any to fire.
