I can count the # of times that I have seen a moose on 1 hand. And here is the 3rd moose I have seen in the last week. There were actually 3 moose where I got the pictures of this one, but the other 2 were hiding in the trees. This guy wasn't afraid of us at all, and finally just ambled into the trees. The other 2 were a cow and a calf.

 That ol' boy ain't gonna win any beauty contest any time soon, but then look who's talkin'!!! :D :D Believe it or not, a few years ago, I saw one of the varmits about a mile from home, here on the prairies of Eastern Colorado. He hung around the country for a couple or three weeks, then made his way back to the mountains. Thanks for sharing.

WOW! How close were you when you took the pics? Those are great pictures :D . I've noticed moose moving in on us as well. We never used to have them, and now I see sign most of the time.

Thanks. Mostly these guys are just passing through. They go from the Cypress Hills, to the eastern side of the province. Although they seem to be hanging around longer now.

The first picture was taken without zoom. So he wasn't too far away. He just stood and looked at us (in the truck) and then ambled into the trees. I figure about 200 feet, maybe less.

Last week our local paper had a picture of a young bull moose that the Sheriff had taken...The bull was first spotted on the edge of town near the Equipment Dealership- then running around the residential area on the north side of town by the cemetery...The Sheriff and Fish and Game herded it out of town and up Cherry Creek to keep it from getting run into...

We're seeing more and more every year- usually at least a half dozen or so different ones spotted....Looks kind of funny when you see a moose running around on the prairie...

Only problem is when they get on the Reservation- its open season year around and they don't last long...I talked with a fellow a couple weeks ago who's wife is tribal- and they'd just got one...

They figure they are coming down out of the Cypress Hills area...Guess they don't like being Canucks

Great pictures Randiliana...

20 years ago we had one stray clear down here to the Kansas / Nebraska state line. at the family thanksgiving in scenic downtown Guide Rock, a guy came in and said the moose was 2 or 3 miles from town...we all loaded up to go see it... was a real treat!!

I heard that some people were trying to chase it north because it was legal to shoot in Kansas, but Nebraska had laws protecting it....

They must all be moving south and west out of WMD 11B, 2 hrs. west of Thunder Bay, where we have been hunting for a number of years. The numbers sure are down in that area.

What is that crop that he is munching on? It looks like the oat/pea mixture that some around here plant for silage.

Thanks, everyone for the comments. Glad you are enjoying the photos.

Burnt, the crop is field peas. It won't be silaged, but combined here, probably within the next month. There are pea crops around that are nearly dead ripe already. I'm sure the moose are enjoying them, the deer do.

When I was in Wyoming this summer, the locals said there was a cow moose and her calf hanging around, but i didn't see her...and to think I had to go clear to Alaska to see a moose! They're funny critters...lol

I heard from a very reliable source that he saw a Wolverine in our pasture.

They look pretty mean. :???:

I've heard from a couple people in this general area that have seen the odd wolverine too. Wouldn't shock me. And I think they ARE pretty mean.

sounds like gossip to me.. :D

We don't see one very often in the Southern part of Maine, but up in the Northern half of the state they are everywhere, the land the logging companies own.

A few weeks ago I was talking with the Game Warden about an ATV issue, he asked if I had any problems with Moose or Deer busting my fences. I told him how I build high tensile fence and it's typically not a problem, not much can hurt it. But anyway, he said if I did have an animal damaging fence like a moose or deer, if they were eating crops I can shoot them without obtaining a permit, I just have to report it within 12 hours and not move the carcass. The same goes for Bears that you may be afraid of killing your livestock. The law is basically the same for large game as it is for small game like woodchucks, most people don't dare to take these animals out, but the law is in our favor on this one. I asked what I can't kill, he mentioned the predatory birds like hawks. Sorry chickens and ducks. He also mentioned if I was going away and wanted a friend to take out a problem animal that I would have to get a permit for that. I believe there are basically no rules on how you take out the animal in this case, you can shoot them at night if you need to. Talk with your warden about the laws in your state before pulling the trigger. One more thing, I haven't taken advantage of the law.
