We got the steers on their way to Kansas today. They are going into a natural beef feedlot. With our good help, things went well, and the calves were very close to their projected payweight. We held back 10% of the steers, and the rest weighed 555#. Since the calves were born mostly from the second week of April on, I was happy with their weight for this year. It almost mirrored their weight a year ago, but two years ago every steer on the ranch averaged 575#. But two years ago we had a lot of fall rain and green grass, so I think that year will be hard to top for weights.
