We got the steers on their way to Kansas today. They are going into a natural beef feedlot. With our good help, things went well, and the calves were very close to their projected payweight. We held back 10% of the steers, and the rest weighed 555#. Since the calves were born mostly from the second week of April on, I was happy with their weight for this year. It almost mirrored their weight a year ago, but two years ago every steer on the ranch averaged 575#. But two years ago we had a lot of fall rain and green grass, so I think that year will be hard to top for weights.

Thank you Red Robin. And others for the nice words. I think we have some pretty good calves, and I was sure glad we sold them back in July when the market was good.

I am an extremely lucky guy. I tell myself that on an ALMOST daily basis. :wink:
 
Terrific looking calves, Tap. I'd say you are winding up a successful
year. Full of trials, perhaps, but you rose to the occasion.

Glad you and your kids got to go hiking. They won't forget that.

just curious, I know of 2 natural feed lots in Kansas. one in St. Francis and one down south ran by the CBS guy.....either of those two your destination?

We sold these calves on the video Jigs, back in July. So I only know the little bit that the rep. of the buyer told me. It was a very small town that was their destination, so I have figured out that was the feedlots address only, and not the packing Co. We only saw individual buyers name on the contract.

Elwapo, we are not extremely fussy about bloodlines if we like the bull, but we do buy all our bulls from registered Angus breeders. We used quite a few N Bar bulls before they went out of business. And we have a few from Sinclair Cattle company who bought N- out. We AI'd our heifers also to Bar Ext a couple of times, and liked the calves we got out of him. Recently we have been using some Forte, and have a couple Emblazon sons. I think we would really like them if we didn't mind paying so much for them from our bull outlet.
