At Valentine Livestock Auction, commission is $8.30 per calf. Then there is brand inspection at 75 cents per head, veterinary health inspection at 35 cents per head, insurance at 40 cents per head, yardage at $1.50 per head, not to mention trucking. My trucking bill for hauling about sixty miles comes to $3.70 per head. Altogether my selling expense totals about $16 per calf. Hopefully this money contributes in helping keep the local communities viable and alive. :?
