yeap looks a tad dusty in your part of the world Soapweed. Them cows seem to be in a hurry to get to the waterhole.

How'd Kosmo wind up with his head against the windshield???

Two of his friends were visiting last Friday night. They were target practicing by an old homestead half a mile east of our house. Just as the sun was setting, they were coming home to supper. One of the other boys was driving. The windshield was dusty and it was hard to see where he was going, with the setting sun in his eyes. He was actually navigating by looking out the open doorway at the edge of the trail road. They forgot that there was a hay bale on that trail road, and hit it going probably between 20 and 25 miles per hour. Things came to a pretty abrupt stop. Kosmo was sitting in the middle, and his head broke the shatter-proof glass windshield. Both of the other boys hit their heads on the rollbar frame-work of the vehicle. All three suffered slight concussions. The bale got tipped up on end in the fracas, but the Polaris Ranger came through the whole ordeal amazingly well. The boys all seem to be doing fine now, three days later.

Oouchieee!!!! Well at least he was sittin where "real cowboys" sit....in the middle....that way he don't hafta git out n open gates...

Course from the photo's he don't git to sit in the middle when ridin with dad

I see on the wire gate you have fence stays to keep the wires from tangling. I have been trying to find some here but nobody carries them in their so-called farm stores. Can you tell me where I could order them from??

Things look to be browning up on you there We have ran out of water on 2 pastures and are running well water now.One pasture the cows crashed the fence and went and found their own water.

The ranch supply stores around here used to carry them. I don't know if they still do or not.

When we bought this ranch in 1986, the previous owner had used a lot of them as stay-wires on gates. They tend to slip on the wires. My preferred method of making stay wires on gates is to use "barbless" double strand Red Brand wire. We double intertwine them on the way down, and it make a lot "stiffer" gate with no slippage. I had a hired hand go around to most of the gates on the ranch, take off the store-bought stays, and put on the double strand barbless wire. At one time, I had a whole bunch of these stays on hand, but am pretty sure I gave them all to somebody.

As luck would have it, one of the few gates on the place that still has these stays on it, is the one in the picture. Some of them had baling wire at each intersection, to hold them in place, and those stays got to stay. I think the gate in the picture is one of these.

thank you for the info soap...... i bought a bundle of them on a local auction and i thought they really worked good. i will have to keep looking. I was hoping that i would be able to get the name of a supplier out there in God's country

They definitely still make them-- because I bought a bunch this spring...I'd think most any fencing supply place would have them...The Grandkids and I put in over 4,000 of them this spring....

I'll ask my neighbor for you jkvike.. He has put in bunches of fence the past year with the EQUIP program and did it with barbwire and has lots and lots of stays.. He will know where to get them and if not, the fella who is putting the fence in for him will know and might even be able to get some for you when he comes back from Kansas.
