The Z-Tags have Arrived!

Our tags made it to the sticks today. The logo looks great. If our pockets are deep enough they should be hanging in some new cows by the end of the week.

Thanks Kerry and Z-Tags.

I got mine last Friday all laser printed front and back starting at D100 up to D149 now all I need is 50, 1 model replacement heifers to keep.

So what's the consensus on the tags? Never used them but wouldn't mind to try them out.

I got pink ones with my last name on them to tag heifers going to feeder sales to let my regular bidders (and maybe a few new ones) know whose cattle they are.

I really like the ease of tagging them and can understand why retention is so high compared to other tags. I like them!

I got mine last year and went back to " Temple tags " as my lost tags ( most at the feeders ) came in at 4%

I loose less than 1% with temple - - - yes I have to keep track of a button but I don't mind if the claves keep their tags.

The reason I tried Z tags was that with the temple tags in the cows they would fade out in about 6 years - - - I nose snub the cows at preg check time and re ink them but I was hoping the Z tags would hold their printing longer. Not long enough to tell yet.

Z tags did a good job as does Temple in that I have my name , address and phone # on the back - - - This does not fade even though it is constantly rubbing the ear but the front fades out as you can tell in the pictures I post.

The oldest cows I have are 1993 models and they still has their original Temple tags but it has been re inked several times. With just 21 cows I should replace all tags this fall and I would not have to do any reinking for a while.

Other than keeping track of the buttons I feel either are about the same as for ease of application and Temple tag sent me free restyled pins for my applicators which make it harder to loose the pins.

This is a 2003 model that is so mean we have not re inked her tag but we know she is K15 as the rest can be read and we know her disposition! You have to have a good gate between you and her to tag her calves!

This is a 1993 model that has been re inked several times and will get it again 17 calves so far and I guess I'm pressing my luck but she seems to be in great shape and I'm going to keep her around as long as she can maintain body condition and put pounds on a calf!

This is cow K6 and the tag in her right ear shows she was born in 1993 out of cow 24 - - - - that is a tag we used for several years - - - -got them blank from TSC and applied them with a knife like tool that carried the tag thru. Quit using them due to concerns over danger in application to both the cow and us and the possibility of blood cross contamination in the herd.
